Suggested shrubs please?

I have a pot on the side of the house which has a box pyramid in it but has had a severe case of box blight. I'm looking a replacing it but don't know what to replace it with. I'm not looking at an edible as the road that our house is on is quite busy so would get covered in pollution. I already have some hardy fuchsias on the front so I'm not looking for one of those, plus I would like something with year round interest. The pot is square but slopes downwards 50cm x 50cm x 100cm. Any suggestions?

I have a pot with a corkscrew hazel in it, seems quite happy to be in there, not a shrub I grant you, but interesting, I have a red variety as well, so you get red leaves in the late spring and then when the leaves drop off you have an interesting framework of twisty branches and also some catkins later on, have had a few lil nuts as well and it doesn't mind being trimmed

Obvious answer I s'pose but the usual replacement for Box is Euonymous Fortunei, dead easy,but a bit boring.Less obvious,ideal place for some of the dwarf Bamboes,check specialist nurseries on line,or pm me if you like.If it were me,I'd plant a mix of Sedum,Sempervivum,outdoor cyclamen and Snowdrop/dwarf Iris etc.etc.(but I like weird things). BWs.

Evergreen choices might be Pieris or Azaleas or Skimmia (acid loving but easily managed in a pot) or theres a really nice dwarf clematis called 'pixie' with an amazing fragrance. Other than that old faithful Pyracantha for evergreen with flowers and lots of berries. Daphnes are really good for fragrance too, nice to have around doorways.

Are you sure I can't tempt you with a bay tree? You can wash the pollution off the leaves. It's evergreen and you can trim it to shape.

What about lavender for colour and smell? I'd second a Pieris which will give an early display, while a spotted laurel could be an option for evergreen interest.

Whatever you chose, I'm sure it'll be lovely.

Thanks for your suggestions, though when I went to move my bay tree the pot cracked so I did a reuse thing, even though it doesn't match the other terracotta pots in style. It is now no longer on the front though
