Salvage shrunken wool jumper
Argh, I am such a bonehead.
Knitted up a sweater [ok I didnt love the fit anyway] in some lovely pure wool chunky yarn....
Cat liked it too, made a bed and stupid here decided to chuck it in the wash on gentle....
It now wouldnt fit a 12 year old. Should/can I simply unpick and re-knit the thing ? I have one ball of yarn left so hopefully can size it back up, or will the yarn be too different between washed/unwashed stuff ? I really dont want to waste the yarn, and dont mind too much re-knitting it. Duh.
Cheers

the cat wants the jumper
Give the cat the jumper

It's unlikely you'll be able to unpick it. It sounds like you've felted it. You could try wetting it again and then gently stretching it, in all directions. You might need to do it several times.
I've done it with a few jumpers my mother kindly washed for me (apparently she forgot how to wash wool and chucked them in with everything else! But even if successful you'll have to be really careful with future washes - it'll felt even more easily (go on, ask me how I know)

You've made felt - which is wonderful! Wash it again to shrink it fully and then you can cut it and it won't fray. Makes very warm mittens or a brilliant tea-cosy!

I have done the same thing and I used it as felt. I made a handbag, which was a bit peculiar but I liked it! Also my grandaughter made some lovely flowers from it with buttons in the centre, so all is not lost! pbf.

Sounds like it has shrunk but not fully felted. I would felt it fully as others have said, unpick the front from the back (or else they might felt together) then put them in on a hot wash. I would make mittens or slippers with it. Lovely!

Or sew up the bottom and top and make a nice cushion cover out of it? Few ornamental buttons? How annoying for you!

Personally I can take or leave any pet. Dogs and cats make me itch. Rats are cool but they're only animals at the end of the day.
