Green tomatoes

The whole reason for the selfsufficientish website was to offer a place where anyone can ask, HOW DO I...? So who knows why it has taken us so long to have a HOW DO I? section, but here it is. So if you want to know how to do anything selfsufficientish then here is the place to ask.

How do I get green tomatoes red? In the sun? Put them in the dark? Put them together with an apple? or banana? or what? I know I can make chutney - anything else? I have lots!

Yes, and said drawer in a reasonably warm room. A banana or apple in with them helps too as they naturally give off ethylene gas which is used to ripen supermarket fruit.

Alternatively pull up the entire plant and hang it tomatoes and all, upside down in a shed or garage that's frost free.

Thank you. The tomatoes (some!) are now in a drawer in a large egg box with an apple. I have told them to turn red!

Window sill and hope the sun shines - even if it doesn't, if they haven't been affected by blight, they should go red in the end - or dry out :-(
Or this site http://tipnut.com/green-tomato-recipes/ gives you some recipes.
