I've had heirloom squash seeds do it, I think it's just a random mutation, or maybe a gene got switched off. It happens.

I've got one of my unidentified plants trying to bury it's leaves...
I looked today and saw the 'emerging lump' and after digging about a bit I saw the leaves under the surface. It appears to have grown a root down, and then leaves, and then grown a 'hump' and buried the emerging leaf...
However...I have no idea what the plant is, so i don't know if it's a bean.

I had a look at all of mine that didn't germinate (that's all of them, minus one) and there was nothing there. Not even a bean.
You guys should consider yourselves lucky you got upside down plants! It's better than nothing.
Perhaps the seed came from someone growing beans upside down like they do tomatoes?
