"Hello!" from West Norfolk

Post: # 259417Post GeorgeSalt »

Hi! I've come across this site from Andy's Booze For Free book and various recipes on the Guardian website. I'm a keen gardener, second-year allotmenteer, recent convert to homebrewing and I also dabble in photography (digital and film).

I think I'm probably here for the beer, as they say.. at least that's what's drawn me initially, but I've had self-sufficientish tendencies for many years - even if I hadn't put a name to it before. On the homebrew front.. I've been making sloe gin for a few years and then started getting adventerous and wandering off-recipe into territory marked on the maps as "here be rot-gut". Dark Sloe Gin with treacly sugar proved a success, then Tipsy Figs/Figgy Spirit proved to be a roaring success last year. Bouyed with enthusiasm and a seemingly endless supply of apples from friends and neighbours that lead to a DIY bottle-jack scumble press and 3 demijohns of wild yeast cider. All of which proved to be extremely palateable. I'm currently filling the gap to Autumn and fresh apples with batches of turbo cider, and I'm about to start an experiment to use up surplus elderberry cordial from last autumn.

Hi ther and welcome
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!
