Winter warmers?

Just read Odsox post anbout the daffs and it got me thinking... (a feat in itself!). What do other ishers LIKE about winter?
I love being able to light the woodburner, there is something so comforting about a "real" fire.
I like making toast by the fire
Having bonfires
Listening to the bad weather from inside a warm house.
Cold, crisp mornings when the light is so clear

Come on...even the most ardent sunlover must find something they like about winter??

Curling up in front of a log fire with a cat on my lap and a good book.
Being able to wear big, thick, figure-hiding clothes.

Yeah, being warm and cosy when you know it's cold outside is definitely a good feeling

Being "forced" to stay inside on the sofa and reading. I also like occaisional power cuts that mean candles must come out and the idiot box cannot function. Stew & dumplings.

Yes - stew! Couldn't think of anything I like but yes stodgy food will do it. That and a brief respite from gardening although we have enough winter jobs to do too.

All of the above!!! The feeling of being in our little cottage with the fire going and knowing that if we get snowed in (we're on the side of a small mountain) or if there's a power cut, we will be ok.

Less people out and about is always a bonus it feels as if you have the countryside to yourself on a weekday. Clearer night skys too so good for star gazing. Also, now that we have moved house we have an excellent view only slighly obscured by some trees, much less of a problem in the winter months.

Yep, that sums up the only redeeming feature of winter ... no tourists between January 6th and St Patricks day.
Other than that, I agree with others about stews ... and porridge for breakfast that has been slow cooked on the wood burner overnight.

Walking the dogs on a crisp frosty morning, curling up in front of the fire with the kids, the dark evenings as u get everyone closed up earlier and settled earlier. Lying in bed listening to bad weather outside!!

I know I already posted but this is my favourite at the moment as I am not well with what I think is just a cold but it seems to be trying to imitate the flu!

Sleep...roast dinners (don't seem to eat that many in summer). I second porridge too. Red wine - seem to drink more in the winter! Decent stuff on the television.

It is just a break really...I don't feel bad about lying in until 12 when it is horrible outside, but on a bright sunshine day I can't bear it.

duvet on the sofa and slipper socks
early evenings, I love coming in from the school run in the evening when it's getting dark already and you're all cold and damp and getting into the house it's all warm and dry and smells of home etc.
