Do i have to drive to be accepted??!!

Post: # 24327Post the.fee.fairy »

Why is it that as i stand at the bus, i get filthy looks from the car drivers going past?

Some of them actively look, some give me sneering faces.

These are the people that are damaging our environment too!

One of them was even a mother pointing me out to her small child (it must have been me, there was no-one else there).

While i'm at it, why does everyone ask me when i'm going to pass my test? Do they not think that i'm perfectly happy getting the bus (or, soon, using my electric bike!)? Do they not see that secretly io look down on them when there's only one of them in a chelsea tractor?

ok...rant over now...

I get that all the time, friends saying I should learn to drive. My husband drives and it drives me crazy - what would be a five minute walk to visit his mother, he used to drive. 3 minutes walk to my son's school and the lad across the road is often driven there.

I know the bus service here isn't perfect (oh how I miss the times of drinking with my friends and catching the half-past midnight train home) - 9.30 is the last bus from Pwllheli, or 10.40ish from Bangor (I missed it when I saw Romeo & Juliet performed in Welsh, grr taxi was about £15!).

maybe you should affect a smug yet pitying look at these drivers, especially when it is in glorious weather (don't know where in Uk you are for that to be relevant), and stretch and bask in the sunshine while they are stuck in their cars, whether it is air con or not it is still not in the sunshine.

I don't know how to do a smug yet pitying look. If you manage it let me know.

Pick a good-weather day, and say to one of them just as they get out of their car - poor you, isn't it awful that you are having to be stuck in that metal box all that time... Isn't there any better way of getting where you need to go? I'm so lucky myself, I can get everywhere by bus or walking...

Problem is, they are likely to call the men with the white coats out.

Unfortunately, I really do need a car - well, I suppose I could live without, but it would very severely restrict what I could do. Nearest public transport is 4 miles away, and that's not much more than the school bus.

Just remembered something else:
If you see yourself being pointed out like that, point back at them. That'll soon stop them...

They are actually envious. They wish they could get to the shops by bus but live in the wrong area. The mums pointing you out are saying ,look that lady is waiting for a BUS ,you know those big lorry things with lots of faces looking out.
We never had a car when i was young and went everywhere by public transport. I used to think it was so funny when my cousin would say she couldn't come to see us as her car was having problems, whilst we would hop on a bus and a train to visit her . Some of the people at work were the same ,not being able to get to work when the car broke but living in the same town as me.
I do drive now as we lived in the sticks for a while and no buses but i wish I'd never learnt as I end up getting roped in to drive and I hate cars.

You know... I would LOVE to get by on the bus... it's not an option out here though. It's a novelty when we visit my mum as we can use the train/metro/bus with ease.

Actually, I often drive past bus stops and think... I could stop and offer a lift.. and I would do that if I ever saw someone I knew stood there.

I HATE driving too Albert... but it's a necessary evil out here. If I lived in town I wouldn't own a car... We never had a car when younger either... my grandparents did and it was a novelty to go out in their car...I hated it then too as I got car sick lol.

oh, sorry, i have no problem with people who have to drive, no problem at all. i love to see 4x4s with mud up the sides!!

Its the looks from the sports car (or the perfectly clean 4x4) drivers.

I'm going to have to practic the pitying look i think!!

The bus service here isn't perfect either, but its only about 3 miles to work, so when i get my electric bike (its out of stock at the moment) i'll be whizzing along!!

Well I gotta tell you.............that is really weird!

I have never heard of anyone catching the bus being on the recieving end of that over here!

An alternative to pointing back perhaps would be the forks

EH? Whats the Forks?
I'd be inclined to do a little dance or possibly stand and take a bow!
