Any spirit will fortify, HH - but most will also modify the taste. The usual thing quoted is Polish Spirit - an extremely strong vodka. I've never, ever, seen this stuff on sale. Ordinary vodka, then, for me. It certainly does the job and has no taste effects.

Cheers mike very helpful, I will try this at the end of fermentation , and will try to avoid the cheap stuff that send you blind!
