bit of a whingey whine

Post: # 236320Post Annpan »

Last year for Mothers day I was given a £25 gift voucher for river cottage online.

At the time we had just been forced out of our house so I was saving it till we moved back...

... By July I reckoned I would just use it so it was used but the code wouldn't work...

... I had to get OH to contact them to get confirmation of the code...

... but by then we were back out of the house again (I've got a lot on my plate, contacting RC customer service was never top of the list)

... so eventually we got the right code...

... but by then River cottage online had changed and they now don't sell books, only courses and expensive seed pack things, etc (they now sell books through amazon)...

... So OH wrote to tell them there is nothing appropriate now in their shop...

... they gave me access to a 'special members zone' where I could buy a book, plus delivery for £23 (or similar) the same book through their amazon site was now £12 including delivery... :banghead:

The whole thing has really pissed me off, and it was supposed to be a treat - and £25 is A LOT of money to me right now- you think I am within my rights to ask for the £25 back as they no longer sell what OH had bought the voucher for (books really) or I am getting a bum deal compared with what other customers are...

whinge, moan, whinge, moan, whinge

or does anyone want to buy a £25 gift voucher for River Cottage?

BTW - We now give handwritten vouchers, such as 'you are owed a nice new cookery book' , they work much better

Sorry, AnnPan - you don't have a chance. After all, it isn't their fault that you didn't cash in straight away. All they'll tell you is that the voucher is still valid and redeemable against their goods - which is true.

Still - it's a good sign that all you have to moan about now is a bloody voucher

Gift vouchers are tricky. You could try to see if they'll give money back - I'd definitely write an email/ring up and complain. Unfortunately, now it's been brought they're under no legal obligation to give a refund.

nope, sadly having dealt with lots of customers who offer gift vouchers and they expect a certain percentage of unredeemed vouchers, and they just view the money as free :(

yes it is, and it feels immoral really - knowing that someone (in this case your OH) has handed over their cash and the company, simply doesn't care if it's redeemed or not.

I'd be most angry too Annpan, would feel very anti-RC. It wouldn't hurt them to honour your voucher and as said, it would be good customer relations. I hope you get what you want :hugish: .

Wait for a free listing day on ebay, they sell vouchers for normally around 90% of the face value. Might be worth a try, or email Amazon and explain, they might swap it for an amazon voucher? After you have done this, and still not happy, then write a letter to Hugh or something, maybe.

It's a hassle, but don't give up, it will be a treat!

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.
