You have said it all wrong giz, I've lost 10 pounds now I need to lose another 5 pounds. When you do that you lose another 5 pounds.
I got to 28 stone, 178 kg, diabetic and high blood pressure to boot. 2 pounds a week nearlly killed me but i got down to 18 st 13 then thought that's it. Back up to 20 st within a couple of weeks now fighting as above.

Anything is managable, putting eweight on is managable and so is losing weight. It's up to you what you wich one you want to do.

It didn't tell me anything meaningful about whether that is good, bad, or unspeakable, but it sounds a terrible amount. I have started 'running' aka stumbling round the park again and taken up yoga O_O.
33% is unspeakable  but then I was 82% now 38% so although both of us have "unspeakable fat ratio's we are both going in the right direction.
This link is to wikipedia about fat ratio's
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_fat_percentage

but the secret is not to get to hung up on it. If you do body building exercise your fat ratio will come down but you might not be as [ areobicly] fit as you would like so long and slow exercise that has your heart rate at about 70% of it's maximum is good for aerobic exercise and you will lose fat for at least 30 hours after an exercise period.

Keep on doing the good work.

weight is going down but i still have an unattractive flabby pot-belly!

any tips for getting rid of this?

(note i am generally not very keen on exercising but realise will have to try something - will certainly not join a gym or do a class! Am otherwise reasonably fit but in my late 50's so dont want anything too strenuous!)

If you have been over weight for a long time then the flabby belly will stay with you. Probably plastic surgery will sort it but then you need to weigh in other factors. It will be a big problem for me when I get down to 13 st but then I will hound my GP to pay for it as I will say i've done the hard work now i want a treat.

As for exercise the disclaimer bit says you must seek your doctors advice before attempting any physical exercise programme but do you have legs ? if so walk. Sounds crass or stupid but we do a lot of exercise in a normal day without thinking about it.

Washing the pots, bending up and down filling / emptying the washer, doing the gardening, ironing, going to the shops etc all take exercise so the way to improve on this is get off the bus 1 stop, then 2 stops then 3 stop earlier. Do the gardening faster, if you have toilets upstairs and downstair use the upstairs toilet in the daytime and the downstairs loo at night but beware of the ghouls and ghosties as you walk down the creeking stairs at night, lol.

I used to thrash my body to within an inch [ 2.54 cm for you young darlings] of it's life AND ENJOY IT then after 6 weeks be totally wasted and spend the next 9 months recovering. now i like to take strol around the park and if I get 250 yrds without stopping that's an achievment worth shouting about so don't over exert yourself but maybe do what you do now but faster.

A few tears ago, I noticed my stomach was getting really flat and I hadnt been targeting it specially or anything. What I had been doing was I joined a ramblers' group and walked about 10 miles every Wednesday (the day the club met) for about a year. The wa;lking was hard to start with, but then it got easier and I found it less strenuous. And the benefit was the flat stomach.

Sadly I had to stop (work reasons) and my stomach is like a muffin now :(

Anyway, for what it's worth, I have a qualification in walking for fitness, so if you want to give it a go but need help starting, give me a shout.
Ruth, would you like to do a write up for walking say starting off at 2mph and building up to say 5 mph over 10 weeks or so?

Have been on course for the last week now - no sugar, no white flour, no spuds, no tea. Going well as lost 5lbs in the two weeks to date. Current weight is 17st 5lbs.

Targe of 13s 6lbs by mid winter (Dec 21st 2011).. a goal I really want to work to.

:flower:

Ok Mick, you have 28 weeks to the 21st of Dec... yes I counted them up.... you want to lose 55 pounds in that 28 weeks.

Your target therefore is 1.97 pounds per week or we'll say 2 pounds a week. How about doing a spreadsheet with your weight in pounds and a columb of weight loss in pounds beside it. You can then do a graph to see how you are porgressing and each week print out a new graph to pin on the fridge, cupboard, cab windscreen, bunk etc.

Put on 1/2lb on the first week and am too scared to weigh myself this week - I have eaten pizza, bread bread bread, custard, crumble, EVERYTHING!

The hardest thing is recouping after a gain and getting back a positive state of mind. I keep trying to remind myself that it is the long game that counts.

Am forcing myself for a run now. Good luck everyone!
The damage is done now Bonnie, get on the scales and find out how much of a piggy you have been and then after thoroughly depressing yourself take a positive from it in that you are not as heavy as you thought you were. EVERY STEP YOU RUN IS A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. EVERY STEP IS ONE CLOSER TO YOUR GOAL, ONE MORE STEP TO THAT SIZE 6 DRESS TO WOW THE FOLKS AT YOUR NEXT PARTY OR OUTING ETC.

If you find yourself getting to the stage of "eating everything in sight" then don't go into the area of your house that has food. Don't buy anything easily "snacked on" [ for me it was 6 double egg fried sarnies with white bread and 3 pounds of cheese, any cheese PER 1/2 DAY] I ended up putting a lock on the kitchen door and giving the key to my wife. We would put my " daily food rations " in the spare room and she would take my wallet / bank cards and the key to work with her.

By was her ears burning all day long but it had to be drastic action for me as death was seen to be iminent back in those dark days.

I have never been horrendously overweight, but i spose i've been carrying a stone or two (ok maybe 3) extra for a few years now. Dont fancy the surgery route - probably just need to strengthen the stomach muscles somewhat so its all held in a bit more!
I am pretty active & on my feet most of the time -- i bake cakes & make preserves for sale at farmers markets. So, after spending a lot of the week stood at the kitchen bench, or bending down to the oven etc i then lug boxes of cakes & jars from house to car, car to market stall and in reverse at the end of the day after a day stood up selling. Shopping really does need the car -- theres no way i can carry all the required bags of flour, sugar, butter, margerine, eggs etc without spending the whole day back n fore! On the rare occasions i do only need a few items i do walk.
I will have to see how i re-arrange my time to fit in a walk, if not daily then at least 2 or 3 times a week

Jumping back on the wagon :cooldude:

Last night I ate nearly a whole bag of revels all to myself and felt awful for it! Been slowly putting weight on again so that has to stop.

Took dog out for walk at 7am and found an empty running track, so plan now is to start Couch to 5k again using that track 3 times a week at stupid o'clock in the morning to avoid other users of said track so I can take dog with me

Oh god. Just stepped on scales.
I've put on 8lb :banghead: :crybaby:

I would like to join in.

I will be away for two weeks but I PROMISE THAT ON MY RETURN I WILL REALLY TRY TO LOSE WEIGHT

I will weekly (Friday) declare my weight to you and the world.

I will try to increase, gradually my exercise rate.

I have been advised to do this by my Doctor. He wants me to lose 3 stone I want to lose 5!

Blimey! having written that down I feel more determined than ever to succeed.

My Dr. keeps saying " life is nice"

I am overweight, type 2 diabetic, have high blood pressure.

Thanks for the opportunity

I've just read through this thread for the first time. I'm one of those lucky buggers who stays skinny no matter what I eat, but I would like to say ...

Big Al, you're a bloody inspiration :salute: :salute: :salute:

Keep up the good work, everyone (oh, and Giz - 7 stone is ridiculously underweight unless you're a dwarf).

It's official!! I have lost weight!! I have been here since the beginning, struggling along. I have no scales so don't know (or want to) my weight. But yesterday my ultra slim, ultra critical daughter said " you look nice, youv'e lost some weight" After I'd picked myself up from the floor I went and looked in the mirror and she is right! my stomach is vanishing! Still a size 16, but everything is definitely looser. and MKG we all hate you!!! pbf.
