Thanks Big Al, i started to trawl though these but I could not find anything that was suitable. One of the web sites crashed my lap top, so i thought I'd ask the kind people to share theirs.

Nikki, I have a 'permanent' paper list for my supermarket shop. I made it by going around my house from room to room, and looking in every cupboard where I store things, writing down everything that I ever buy. I then arranged that in the order of the supermarket I use most often (to the best of my memory, and the bnggers have moved everything around since then  ). I did it in columns with column 1 being the item, column 2 saying how many I estimate I get through a month, column 3 is left blank and is for how many I have in stock just before I go shopping, and column 4 is the difference between 2 and 3, thereby telling me how many to buy. That sounds complicated on reading. Let's see if I can set it out (sort of)

Item................Expected use per month........In Stock...........To Buy
Baked beans..................8...........................2...................6...
plain flour.....................3...........................0.5................3...
etc.

Does that work on your screen?
Oh, and if you do this, remember to use a pencil so you can rub it out.

I just thought, couldn't you tidy your handbag (or whatever you carry) and dig out your old receipts? They'll be perfect shopping lists, tailor made for you.

Hi Hun. Thats similar to the way that I did mine. Mine is on on the old lap top, and the hard drive isn't salvagable. Was just trying to save myself some work, as there is a lot to replace. It took me ages to make my original list.

I've tried sending you mine, but the attach file thingy won't let me put it on here, I can't attach files on your PM or on the Ish email link to you, I can't attach files on FB's PM thing. And even if I do get it to you, I don't know if you'll be able to open it. It's on an OpenDocument Spreadsheet which is a free version of Excel. If you want, you could PM me your email address and I'll try that way.

I'm curious - what do you mean by a monthly shopping list? Do you mean store cupboard stuff? Sorry to be so dim - it just hadn't ever occured to me to buy regular stuff every month. I guess I must tho 'cos I always have pretty much the same stuff in the store cupboard.

It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Bit like you - I just have a pad on the kitchen table and write down what we need and if we use say 3 tins of tomatoes then I write 3 tins of toms on the shopping list so we always have our store cupboard full. I can see at a glance if we are running low on sugar or coffee or whatever so just write it on the shopping list, ditto veggies and fresh stuff. I would have thought it fairly easy to just look through your cupboards and fridge to see what you need to buy? :?

Surely if you have the same monthly shopping list doesn't it all become a bit boring :dontknow:

I quickly scribble out my shopping list when I know we are going out (I don't drive and our nearest shops are 6 miles away).

Though half the time I forget the list anyway   We are both foodies and love trying different things. I would get the "we had that last week" from Dave if I stuck to the same list.

I just have a monthly list for the supermarket and it includes the things I do always buy, like flour, cereals and stuff. I also have a space where I can jot down any additional items, but I very rarely use that. I don't feel like it gets boring because our variation comes from other sources. We order our meat from OH's friend whose dad's a butcher, and although we only order that about once a month, it's far from rigid. Variation also comes from when I pop to the local shops - if I need to go to the post office for example, I'll pop in the convenience store as well. If they have anything reduced for quick sale, I might buy it. A couple of weeks ago I got loads of pork chops which I did HFW's overnight cure on and turned them into bacon. And having a list just stops me forgetting stuff I need, it doesn't stop me browsing (although my idea of browsing is finding something I like the look of and then taking a photo of to remind me to have a go at making it  ).

You could always do what I do occasionally Sue....... get hold of your dave's hand and show him the kitchen door. In my case it scares the crap out of my wife and all is well for atleast another 2 months, lol.

Mind you I will have to be careful as a long while back I registered Mrs BA on this site and she is reading my posts now so I'll have to be careful

As for We had that last week take pasta for example.

Lasagne,
spag bol
canaloni
pasta in sauces
ravioli

I don't see how cos most of what we're talking about is basics anyway so you can prepare those staples into anything you desire, it would only be the veg maybe which would get boring if you always bought the same things. Meat can be done hundreds of different ways and so can just about anything else really! So unless your monthly/weekly shopping list has fishfingers, same old topping pizza and ready meals I can't see how it can get boring if you cook different things with your pasta/flour/sugar/meat/veggies/rice/whatever. Having said that we do often do the same old same old things when we get in a rut!

By the way we always have our shopping list and only ever buy what is on it which is what we need - there's nothing much in France which tempts me anyway on the deli type counters and staring at boxes of mass produced biscuits doesn't even do it for me, nor do their gateau. I just don't even go to those parts of the supermarket, just straight to where we need the things on the list, grab them and get the flock out ASAP!!!

However put me in T*scos or any big British supermarket (oooh especially M&S  ) and I could and do spend hours and hundreds of pounds in there and literally go up and down every single aisle oohing and aahing over all the yummy amazing things. Cos it's different, miles cheaper and there's so much I love which I can't get here in France!
