Little things that really annoy you!

I doubt the French government will be adding to our modest tally of public holidays, somehow.

I think they only have a few public holidays but make up for it by having 25 strike days a year

Hang on - I'm counting: New year, Easter Monday (but not Good Friday), May 1st, May 8th, Ascension, Pentecôte, July 14th, Assumption, All Saints, November 11th, Christmas day. I think that's it - so 11.

How many does the UK have these days? Haven't a couple been added in recent years?

I'm not alloiwed to strike :(

However in France if a holiday falls on a weekend then tough. Unless of course you work weekends. Also there is no Boxing Day and only one day off for Easter, so I think you are better off in the UK.

Here's one that's been annoying me today. When I was young, I over-heard a friend of my parents tell them the following riddle:

Someone is looking at a photograph and is asked who is in the picture. He says, "sisters and brothers have I none, but this man's father was my father's son". Who is in the picture?

Now many of you will have heard this one, but for anyone who hasn't and wants to work it out, I'm going to make you scroll down before I blurt it out.

Well, after much umm-ing and ah-ing, my parents were told "it's himself". Everyone accepted that, and thought it was a wonderful little riddle. Now, for some reason, I have found myself, some 30 years later, pondering on it and worked out that was the wrong answer. The guy in the picture isn't himself, it's his son :banghead: . (And having just checked with Google, it seems other people have also been told the wrong answer, pondered on it and worked it out properly).

Good detective work Rosey - I have never been able to figure that one out from the clue or answer - it just didn't make sense. Now it does. Thank you! :salute: :salute: :salute:

Same here Zoe, haven't managed to get to work all week because of the weather so 5 days pay down the tubes. That is annoying!
