Hiya all,

I have been a lurker for a while, but recently got an allotment which has tipped me over the 'signing up and joining in' edge! :)

Actually - I have pretty much missed the boat on the allotment front this year I reckon, but plenty of time to get it and myself ready for next season... I am also an occasional forager, homebrewer, green woodworker/volunteer and whippet walker.

I also work for Ecotricity as Online Community Manager - so can answer green energy questions if anyone has any (that's not really why I am here though).

Hello and welcome from wales...some salad things do not take too long to get going, the weather is so topsy turvey nothing is playing by the rules Getting ready grown to plant out can be just as satisfying because you still have to look after them, slugs..water and all that. Better to get something in the ground than let nature take it back, if you dont use it she will

Thanks for the warm welcomes - WRT getting going on the allotment - it's a virgin site in a field margin, so there's lots of digging up of weeds to be doing, and soil to be improved.

I am sure I will get *something* in the ground this year - but am in no mad rush and where I don't plant - I will be mulching (with landscaping fabric) so nature can't take advantage of my inaction ;)

I guess I will go into more detail in the right section for allotmenteering :)

hello and good luck. don't worry about being late just get in there, car boot for some starter plants and you can still be inundated with courgettes, beans and brassicas , not to mention salads, spring onions or tomatoes. go green ranger go, go, go, go go

Yep - I have some Mauris Pipers chitting (for about a month too long!), a load of broad beans in need of a more roomy home, some comfrey and rhubarb waiting to move in too, and my daughter and I both germinated a butternut squash each which are ready to go out...

Kale is also on the list (I need to find one that cabbage white's don't like!), along with more lettuce than you can possibly imagine (I got a backlog of seeds from a couple of years ago)...

I also have a nut producing hazelnut that I grew from seed, and loads of new raspberry canes to move at the end of this season... so it wont be too bleak :) I am quite excited - need to get cracking this weekend for sure.
