How many times can I reuse baking paper?

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

How many times can I reuse baking paper?

Post: # 194840Post Jessiebean »

I have reused my baking paper- the fancy non stick kind- simply because I have been baking several batches of biscuits today. When I worked in a restaurant we would reuse the "silicon" paper as it was expensive and durable and wondered if anyone had had any ill effects (ie small fires or sticking baked goods) from re-using non-stick baking paper too many times? I would be keen to get as many uses as I can from this stuff- feel slightly wasteful using it but love the results!

I shall assume there are no ill affects and merrily reuse it then!

Ah that is an interesting thought but wouldn't the temperatures used in baking kill off any bacteria? (having written that I did use some today to line the pan for turkish delight...no baking there... could definitely encourage bacterial growth)

I've been reusing mine for many years
(errm for many years I have been reusing baking paper(?)
with no ill effects  for meat I'd usually use a washable silicone sheet (or old marg/butter wrappings) but for baked goods just the ordinary baking parchment lasts for yonks

I'm not sure what non-stick baking paper is :dontknow:

I re-use 'normal' baking paper several times on the same day as I tend to do batch baking, then fold it greasy side in and use the other side several times on another batch bake day. Then I tend to throw it away as I keep it in my cutlery drawer and don't want to get greasey germs all over my spoons!

Wasteful I know but less wasteful than buying all our cakes and biscuits pre-packaged so that's my compromise for now.
