Good things:
It saves money
It's fresh
I don't need to travel to buy it
I can eat veg that I can't buy in France
Bad things:
It's hard work
It takes over your life so much so you don't have any time to do anything else
It's so disappointing when you get something like blight or other diseases that just wipe out all those months of hard work.
You can't go on holiday when the weather is good anywhere in the northern hemisphere!

I love growing my own veg as I can walk down the supermarket isles ( sorry if that's spelt wrong) and feel all smug when I see spouting broccoli at a ridiculous price.
It's great for the kids too as they know that not everything is vacuum packed and know there is hard work needed to produce things it doesnt all come for free.
P.S. anyone else want a spell checker on here!
. My spelling is sooooooooo bad.

Yes, agree with most of the above. Love the freshness and flavour - hate the weeding and frustrations such as caterpillars and slugs!
Tonight we had leek and blue cheese tart, green salad and spuds followed by our first rhubarb this year, leeks, salad and rhubarb picked this morning.
Spellchecker (aisle btw
) very usefull except when the wrong word is correctly spelt!
good for spotting typos though!

Aahhh... spellchecker.... that's just reminded me of the happenings this morning on our breakfast tv show....
So, totally off topic, but I'll share anyway...
The show's team were gathered around the table & sampling some sugar-free chocolate... all decided it was the absolute best... and the presenter gave out the website... verbally, not on the screen... 'such&such-delight.com... (such&such is not the site, but I won't advertise!)
Fast forward 10 minutes, & the camera returns to the desk where 2 of the team appear quite flustered & giggling... it turns out that such&such-delight.com is actually a hardcore naughty site... the real site was in fact such&such-deLITE.com!!
The rest of the morning was a mix of general corpsing & giggling.....
OK, so I guess you had to see it for yourself, but here in Ireland, sending folks to a hardcore naughty site at 8am on a monday morning......
I bet there was a few folks who got a little more info than sugar free choccy!

well for me its got to be the harvest its the satisfaction of digging up and eating something you've grown from a seed to a ful grown plant for me last year i looked after my potatoes and they gave a small yeild but generous enough for a few dinners so yeah best thing is the growing and the eating and the satisfaction lol

I just love the whole process.I start around January.I look at seed websites, and decide what we are going to grow. Then February I'm starting to sow some seeds ect.I like working with the earth, and it keeps me in touch with the seasons.I love the liberating feeling you get when you can go outside your back door and pick what you want for dinner. Its incredibly simplistic and satisfying.I also love the fact I know what went into growing my own food, and that there are no food miles involved.I have recently moved house and have a much bigger back garden, and its fantastic!
