Kick you when your down
well the preverbial @£$% has hit the fan, just when things wer hard, trying to get our small business going the landlord is selling the farm from under us, the sod didn't eve have the decency to ring us or come in person, just sent an email.
if you don't want to buy the plavce for 420.000 you have three months to vacate the premises.
so now we have to pack up everything, pull all the plants and put into pots dismantle the garden beds and greenhouses and possibly even pull our son from his school as there is much around us to rent at the moment.
and to top it all of this is the third rental we have had sold out from unders us in four years, i would scream if I had the energy.
but right now we are just in shock as we had the opportunity on to great properties last month and ask them out righth if we needed to look for a new place and they looked us in the face and lied saying no no worries.

Oh this is terrible, what a great saddness for you
Its difficult to know what to say, other than something must be around the corner and heading your way, life can seem very unfair sometimes.
Here's wishing you all the luck and best wishes with what ever you do next, so very sorry

Re: Kick you when your down
OMG don't you have any security there or set time limit contract?
Even in England and France they can't give notice by email (well maybe they can in England these days but in France it has to be by the book and sent by registered post, and only at the end of your 3 year tenancy or on each anniversay thereafter.
I thought you owned your place as you had greenhouses etc.
Really sorry to hear it, is there no way you can get a mortgage and buy a place of your own? Usually cheaper in the long run, as long as you've got some up front to start with.

Really sorry to hear that. Are you sure they can legally do that to you? Might it be worth getting legal advice? Some folks have no conscience. All the best. pbf.

Oh NOO!
You poor thing, that is really really horrible.
Hope you manage to find something else - perhaps with a minimum rental term to give you some more security?
I completely understand how vulnerable you must be feeling, we rent too and have invested masses of time and not inconsiderable cash into the place...you really do put your faith in your landlord. But then if you aren't in a position to buy (as we aren't), what option do you have?
Good luck with finding something else.

Re: Kick you when your down
Well the agreement was for between five to ten years, but silly me for trusting someone. but now comes the hard part I have to pull up all my plants and pot them for transport as well as planting al my winter crops in pots as many need to be planted now. Plus I have to pack-up all my wood for transport as well as all the fire wood we have gathered. and then pack up a five bedroom house, two businesses and twenty four chickens two guinee pigs a budgee and a very large ginger farm cat unwanted by the landlords.
We are going to have a look at an old pub tomorrow it has ten rooms and a commercial kitchen, plus a small paddock, its not ideal but it could work if there is nothing else around.

Re: Kick you when your down
Sorry to hear your news. Must be an enormous blow.
Are there any organisations which would purchase this property with you as a sitting tenant? Eg National Trust?
Anyway this pub sounds fantastic. Is the rental affordable? Without being intrusive hopefully but is it similar to what you pay now?

no not intrusive
its about a hundred dollars cheaper, we pay 350nzd at the moment, about 180 pounds but the pub would be 250 dollars but well see what state its in

You poor thing, what a total bunch of scum bags they are. I really hope you end up in a better position and may their farm be infested with the fleas of a thousand camels. Sorry i have nothing better to add,

Re: Kick you when your down
What happens in NZ if you refuse to move? Was your contract for 5-10 years in writing or just verbal?

Re: Kick you when your down
It was verbal, which is supposed to be legally binding but in NZ the landlords have all the power and can forcibly evict if you refuse to move

Re: Kick you when your down
Just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear that you are in this horrible position. Maybe it was meant to be and your next place will be the place that you can finally settle down and really have somewhere to call home.
