Next time to plant garlic?

Post: # 184149Post lovelygreenleaves »

I recently read something that advised to just plant garlic all year round, which goes against what I thought. When would you say is the next time I can plant garlic? I'm just wondering as I've been given some good ones I'm itching to plant!

Mine went in back in October but you can plant any time up to mid March.
Your garlic bulbs will tell you when they need planting by starting to grow regardless with green shoots appearing .. even in the fridge.

I thought most Hardneck varieties are planted Feb/March but softnecks are better planted in October although you can plant anytime up until March.

Who's the celebrity gardener with the pony-tail (having one of those senior moments) he suggested putting plastic bottle cloches over winter planted garlic to improve the ultimate bulb size - anyone tried it?

Hi,
According to the old adage(?) "Plant on the shortest day, harvest on the longest" However, we were all ready to plant and then the weather set in, so managed to get them in the ground yesterday shouldn't worry too much, pop them in and see what happens. :sunny:

I always thought that referred to shallots, but then again I planted my shallots in October too.
