Don't, that's got my mind boggling! Usually these things involve large horses and women!!!

I do have a mobile, but I don't even know how to send a text message on it. I can only just about make a phone call. And I don't know my own number!

Sorry, Felix, we seem to have hijacked your thread! We are good at that, you know...

These Christmas parties... I haven't been to one for ages, so don't know what they are like nowadays  ! But at least they seem to keep you up to date with the latest developments in mobile technology.

Mandy, once somebody sent me a text message, and it took me over half an hour to send back an "ok" - I decided that this definitely wasn't the method of communication for me!

Tee hee. I'm hopeless with my mobile too. I abandoned trying to reply to a text message till my husband got home so he could do it for me
The worrying thing is that a few years ago when I was a student I used a mobile all the time and could do pretty much everything with it, I just seem to have forgotten how!

Mobile phone; that sounds clever. What will they think of next!

felix wrote:Seriuously guys, this is a real breath of fresh air for me. I feel quite isolated as everyone around me seems only to be interested in cars, gyms and whether or not a mobile phone has bluetooth. Its really gets me down. Since I moved to Leicester a few months ago I've seen more personalised number plates and shop-shiny chelsea tractors than you'd get in hell's car park! So thanks for renewing my faith in mankind :dave:
It's much the same out here in the wilds of Aberdeenshire. There are some good folk around, but there a lot of people who commute from here to Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Cardiff. True! They drive in to Aberdeen Airport and fly to work, then back again.

You can always pick them at the school, nursery or playgroup. They're the people in new Discovery 3s, BMW X5s, Volvo XC90s, Range Rovers and even a Porsche Cayenne. They talk about their horses, swimming pools and tennis courts - and won't let their designer clad children anyway near my feral little mingers!

Still, I've managed to meet a few like-minded people via Freecycle, forums like this, and very occasionally passers by who stop to see what we're doing. So hello from a fellow newbie here and here's hoping you make some new friends both here and in your immediate neck of the woods.

OK Stonehead, you're the last straw. I've signed up to freecycle, I hadn't heard of it before joining "Ish" and you piqued my curiosity to make me look at it. Well done you!

Me neither - twas the other thread about Freecycle and someone mentioning it in Sweden that made me realise it might exist in France. However my local group (30km away) only started in March and there have been the grand sum of 3  offers since then. Anyway glad to see some French people out there interested in keeping things out of landfill.
