l01 used for old jeans

101 Uses For is popular and let's hope it stays that way. Our second book is presently called 101 tips for self sufficiency; we will certainly dip into this section for ideas. So post away and let's try and get at least one thread up to 101.

7. Use the good bits to patch or repair pockets on newer jeans
8. Patch the inside of jeans knees to make a pocket - pop in a bit of sleep-mat type foam for garden jeans with built-in kneelers

9. Use the back pocket section to make a wee bag. (got a couple I've had for years, they're ace!)

10. Use waist band and any pockets you want to make "pixie pockets". Like a bum-bag or a money belt but unique!

Love the idea of the massive patchwork bedspread though!

What's wrong with just waring them?
(assuming they still preserve modesty)

I wear jeans with holes and ragged tears as big as a fist in the knees. If they get too tore they become shorts. Admittedly I don't go further than the back garden in them, but I can't throw away a comfortable, well loved pair of jeans!

11. Wear them a little longer (or shorter)

Cut the legs off level and hem across the bottom. Then put a long belt through the loops and you have a hand bag or shoulder bag.

Funky cushion, curtain pelmet, bunting (I'm into bunting at the moment, can you tell?), shelf edging.

Christmas decorations.

Place mats, napkin rings. Make some napkins from a blue, checked tea towel to go a treat.

Take the legs you discarded from the bag and stuff with wadding, old tights etc. Then sew them together to make a long tube. Take the two ends and sew together to make a donut shape. Sew another piece of fabric to the bottom to make a cat bed.

Re-upholster chair cushions.

Draught excluders - cut off leg of jeans, stuff and sew up. Add funky decorations as desired

23. (I think)

Use the leg to make a childs apron. Open the inside seam and lay out flat, cut to shape, and edge with binding, they are (obviously  ) super hard wearing.

For those of you with good legs, curtisy of my youngest, (who said she read the idea in a teen mag years ago):

24) Cut off the legs just below the length you want your skirt to be. Undo the crotch seam, cut a triangle to fit front & back, sew in place. Mini skirt.

I've just made a new peg bag from an old pair. Now, if I could only get one of the cameras to work I'd take a pic.

I usually try to keep my jeans patched because I was bitten by a nasty insect through a gaping hole in the leg of my jeans
I favour wearing them until total rag stage as I have a great talent for getting muddy and slimy and wet
