End of an Era
My old plot is slowly being emptied, after ten years. The last of the spuds are in the pantry, the crabs are now jars of mint jelly, the tomatoes are in the freezer, the salad crops are just a memory and last night we ate the last of the courgettes. All my raised beds are in kit form, their rich soil spread over my once neat grass paths. The polytunnel is about to be dismantled and join the green house in storage.
Am I sad? NOT A BIT OF IT!!!Hubby & I are trying to sell up & relocate to a small-holding in RoI in the New Year. It does seem strange not to be planting green manures, digging over ready for the frosts or ordering seeds, but this time next year I'll probably be too busy to remember! lol
Wish us luck.

Where are you going to Muddy within the ROI? I don't know if you've bought anything yet. Talking of people over there (and I know you met her when you were there) but where on earth is Julie these days? She was a very prolific poster then all of a sudden - nothing. I miss her.
Oh and good luck to you with your move and the wind down to it all garden wise. At least you can take your p. tunnel and greenhouse with you!

Shucks Ta all. I'll keep you all up to speed on the move.
I think it really hit me today that it's REALLY going to happen, after months of talking about it. It was as I dismantaled the last raised bed that I had my OMG moment!
MMM we are looking in the Counties of Roscommon, Galway and Mayo. (*has visions of all ISH members in those areas panicking!*)
Re Ms Sherris: TBH it's all her fault that we're off to RoI in the first place. Not sure what is happening, but I do know she has had a few technical problems this Summer...ie no internet. Will pass your concerns on via snail mail next time I write to her.

Homegrown--That is so true. I wish I could keep that in mind during periods of ending/closing/dismantling.
Muddywitch-I am officially jealous. I love that part of Ireland. Good luck with your move. I hope it all goes well for you.

Re: End of an Era
Google maps don't do counties and I only know where the counties are in England so is that north, south, east or west?
Please do give my best wishes to Ms Sherris when you snail mail her!

MMM,
We are heading West, to the ancient kingdom of Connaught:

I had no clue to Irish counties this time last year, but I'm learning fast.

Re: End of an Era
Thanks Muddy, that helps a lot! Isn't that the general area where Julie, Odsox and Camile are?
I must visit Ireland one of these days (years) as even Brittany Ferries goes there!

Re: End of an Era
Julie & Camile are in that area, which is one of the reasons we chose that neck-of-the-woods. Odsox is down in Cork though, so he can relax, he'll be a long drive away from us
Once we get settled we'll be running a camp site so if you're feeling adventurous you'd be welcome to come & pitch tent in our fields. We'll do special rates for ISHers.

Oh I had no idea that Odsox was down in the south!
I think my camping days are over - never even got into it when I was younger! But I'm sure there are plenty of B&Bs around with nice soft beds.
