Hello from an overcast bristol

Post: # 146132Post Chicken6 »

Hi everyone.

I'm Live on the edge of Bristol in a 3 bed semi with my three young children and my husband.

We have 6 chickens and our lovely ladies provide us with all our eggs and more to sell on to neighbours. I have an allotment and near enough provide all our vegetables and a lot of our fruit.

Last year the guys down the allotment site helped me to cover my polytunnel 20ftx12ft (OH in three years hasn't stepped foot on the site let alone the plot) this wasn't until May 08 so I missed getting an early start which is where I'm now looking for advice.

I still get really excited when seedlings start to appear and love looking through my collection of seeds.

This year my aim is to make full use of the polytunnel and to save my own seeds. This year I have got most of my seeds from realseeds in a hope that the veg not only grows well, tastes great but enables me to harvest the seeds for use in later years or share.

Well that's me :hello2:

hiya!
We're just thinking about getting chooks, promised our son we'd have them for easter so got to get a move on now! I was thinking of starting with a little rabbit run thing while we build a bigger compound, but I'm worried the cat will sit on the top and torment them.

As for seeds, start preparing your pots and let the compost warm up. Have some dry fine (old) compost for covering the seeds and a container to collect rainwater at the door for watering them in. The full moon was yesterday, so it's probably best to wait a few days till the dark of the moon or the equinox on 21st March (week saturday) to plant. You can mark up the pots and get ready tho!

We're just a year ahead of you, got the polytunnel in time for last years planting but as I was busy at work I didn't help hubby put it up until May - must have been the first sunny day!

Anyhow, welcome! :sunny:
if we all work together we can totally disrupt the system

I'm just off the Wells Rd by the lights near the Imperial ground. Just on the edge of South Bristol.
Allotment is at the bottom of stockwood by the cycle track

Welcome to ISH :flower:

Is it my imagination or are the Bristolians rivalling the Irish contingency now in numbers?

Thankyou for the warm welcome - I'm still reading through all the old threads

I wish I'd found this site years ago. It offers advice on everything I'm interested in rather than a forum with just one little section of interest.
