Our economy is based on capitalism and as such is constantly striving to make money by any means. If society changes towards a more reusable culture, then our capitalist economy will change to accommodate that. People will always try to make money and if that means they have to stop producing electrical goods and start repairing them, then that is what they will do. Although the current economy is looking pretty unhealthy, I have no doubt that it will recover at some point although I’m not quite sure how it will look?

I'm sure it will and I'm equally sure that it will carry on pretty much the same as it did before.
Maybe the banking system will be a bit more regulated, but that's about it.
House prices will be back to stupid values, oil prices will go through the roof again and China, India and other far eastern countries will regain their dominance.
In 5 years time everyone will have forgotten and think that a recession could never happen.

Yup, I think so too...

I think someone else mentioned this but......

As long as we aren't living outside the realms of decency (ie. living and consuming at a rate which our planet can support)
Why can't we be using our eco sensibilities to make our economy better? What is wrong with buying recycled, handmade prducts, thus supporting the local economy and a few small businesses as well as getting yourself a nice product?

I have to admit that I still like new things (I don't get them very often) but if I am conscientious about how I spend my money, when I buy things I need/desire to improve my life.... well.... what I am saying is there not something to be said for supporting small businesses and the recycle/organic/re-use economy?
