Arrgh greenhouse

I've just come in from my windswept garden, after discovering my uPvc small greenhouse blown over and all my precious seedlings that I had started off all over the place- all lables gone just several spilt seed trays of small 2 leafed shoots. I am so upset I could scream and shout, Its in the most sheltered place in the garden and has never done it before..I mights have to resort to a bottle of homebrew once the kids have gone to bed. Onions, lobelia, targetes, coriander, parsley, dill, yarrow, mesebryanthemum and a couple of fushia plants I took as cuttings last year and was coaxing on for planting out later this year

How bloomin awful mate.... have you managed to salvage anything???

We had one of those greenhouses and used to put a big stone or three in the bottom of it, or a bag full of earth to try and weight it down.

a few bits were rescued, many were at the first two leaf stage so could be lobelia, could be coriander who knows?!? I've stuck them back into trays and I'll wait to see what other leaves develop.....thanks for the virtual hugs-I needed that!

im really sorry to hear that ,i have bought a mini green house thing i will buy a paving slab and put it on the bottom and tie it to the railings too i may have some spare parsley seed if you need it

Deb, that sounds so awful... Poor you. All that work and care that's gone into your plants. I know it would knock me right off balance if that happened to me...

Sorry to hear that Debs! Know the feeling, it's after things like that happen I have been known to kick a hole in the wall (bad idea!).

A bit of screaming and yelling can be very therapeutic!

I feel for you because the same thing happened to me last year after owning the damn thing for only one week. The whole frame bent out of shape and then my husband had a big fight on his hands trying to get our money back from the shop we bought it from - they said it had 'no guarantee'. He made such a fuss in front of the other customers that the manager eventually gave him a credit note. We don't shop there any more!

Thanks for all the kind words guys-and the offer of seeds gunners what a nice bloke you are!. Greenhouse has now been rebuilt and a neighbour has offered her surplus seed to get me going again, so it shouldn't be too long before I've caught up again.....the grrrr-eenhouse now has a weight at the bottom and a bungy strap around attached to a fence post- I defy it to do it again. Once again, thanks for being there guys

Just thought of another use for baling twine: Tie greenhouse to concrete slabs... Good to hear that you are not letting it defeat you!

Hi Debs,so sorry.The same things happened to me,the entire cover blew off the polytunnel and ended up in nextdoors field! Wouldnt mind but it was anchored down, I thought, well enough.Luckily I didnt have seedlings in it so I havent lost anything and the cover had stretched,so I guess its done me a bit of a favour,at least I can put it on and make it tighter. Hope things are getting better today.

Bloody hell Debs *weeps for her* I used to live on the Isle of Man and we had a metal climbing frame with no platforms or anything fancy on it, the wind took it three gardens up the road one night!

Goodlife, I finished the frame of my tunnel today so I'm hoping to cover it next weekend if it's warm enough... any tips you'd like to pass on since I've not done this before?

Yes,make sure you anchor it down well!!!!! Seriously,I think yours is a different design to mine,the cover for mine is a fitted type and sort of green,I suspect yours is a clear type and i wouldnt know where to start with this,sorry.

Is yours a Solar Tunnel then? I thought they were supposed to be stronger! Ours is fixed onto the frame by burying the sides in a 1' deep trench, so they shouldn't go anywhere. I hope.

I couldnt tell you what mine is technically,I bought it off ebay (am I allowed to say that?) and it was described as a "flower greenhouse" but its 4mx2m (I think) and definately tunnel shaped! And we dont grow flowers........
