Remote Pc Assistance

Good evening,

This is an announcement that might change your life.

Now that I have broadband, I would be able to assist anyone who has a broadband connection remotely, without having to move from my comfy cottage.

It will be much cheaper than bringing your Pc to Pc world or the likes, or than getting someone to call out t you.

We could simply arrange some sort of barter or anything ..

Most problems could be fixed as long as the pc physically works and broadband works ... and guidance could be given through phone if there was any parts to change in the Pc.

And of course this can include installing softwares and all.

I have been doing technical support this way (phone) and call out for more than 9 years now, so without being a smart ass, I know my way around them now.

Does that sound like anything you would be remotely interested in ?

Please answer the pole so I have a clue of the general idea on that.

And don't hesitate to ask any questions .

I voted no, cos I've married a computer genius, but I wish you all the best in your venture. I think it would be a service that a great many people could take advantage of. Very green way to sort out those of us who don't understand our PCs as well as we should

I also voted 'No' - but no offence meant at all.

Hubby & I are very PC literate & have had PC's & then the internet for nearly 14 years now.
He's always custom built our PC's with the best spec at the time & we keep as up to date as we can with the hardware. Software-wise, we have all sorts of programmes on the hard drive for security & protection, and the only time we've had problems was when the daughters had access to the PC too!
Hubby also writes coding for a job, so every now & again, he has a tinker with some of our settings. The one thing we lament is the evolution of the almighty windows... I loved playing in DOS personally, because it was so easy to program!

I agree that there a lot of people out there that will no doubt need a service like this though - my ex-boss regularly toured the p0rn sites & every week I was cleaning viruses
A workmate of hubby had probs with his PC, so it came home here..... with less than 4mb free on a 120gb hard drive We cleaned & cleared & did some general housekeeping, saved, & backed up & then did a reformat!
Hubby also gave him a few tips for PC tidying as well

It sounds like a really good idea. However, as per previous replies I married a complete computer geek and have no worries on that front.

come on guys, don't be shy ... unless you are married to a computer geek too .. needless to say ...

Basically there is nothing hidden in it ..

because the way it works is that you send the request for assistance, ie I don't get access unless you allow me too.

And I would be giving you guidance through a call via Skype or the likes, so we can basically get to know each other first.

And the first thing is that once you allow the connection, I will basically see you screen and what you do. And at that point I still wouldn't have control of the machine.

So you could basically explain me the problem this way .. and depending on your level of "control" of the computer, I could simply tell you what to do without "doing" a thing myself.

And then after that, if things were getting serious, I can ask for control of the machine, and you would see your mouse moving like if it was you controlling it. so there is nothing hidden or that I can hide.

Could you remotely help me plant my potatoes. I think I would have to design a potato planting robot first and then hook it up to my laptop. You could control the POTATO BOT i think it would need a webcam on it's fork. I could yell directions into a headset.

Nope for a few of reasons.

Firstly my OH is a PC / Tech genius and secondly, so am I

On a serious note most peoples PC's don't have enough memory to run the Remote Assistance.

I tried Remote Assistance once and my old PC either slowed to a halt or crashed constantly and I would imagine alot of peoples PC's to be of that kind of build.

On top of that you have the problem with the pipeline it is going down, if they are on modems or they are having problems with their broadband then there's virtually nothing you can do remotely. Don't assume everyone is on broadband these days as it simply isn't the case.

My OH's view is that you would have to build up a customer client base from home visits first before offering a one-to-one Remote Assistance after checking that their PC could handle it otherwise most people simply would not trust you.

He's not trying to come off as super negative it's just a really hard area of expertise to get into in the first place and make money at, let alone some stranger coming up to you and asking if they can have control of their PC!

Good luck in your venture! I've voted yes but I already have my own tame computer man.

My IT-man son is forever remotely prying around in our computers as he is in the UK and we are currently in France. It works fine and he's fixed all sorts of things, his only failure was the "blue screen of death". But as there was no way of accessing the PC in question it was hardly surprising. We had to wait for a visit from him for that one!
