Don't know because you can't smell your own house can you? Just like your own dogs don't smell but everyone else's stink.

I can't smell my house, although it must smell of something - probably baking bread, soup and sweaty teenogre, with undertones of cat litter tray (we have a very old baggage of a cat Not incontenent just disorientated sometimes!)Millymollymandy wrote:Don't know because you can't smell your own house can you? It is lovely to read your posts of personal house smells - not only does it give an insight into your lives but also into how creative and homely you all are!

About 5:30 every afternoon I have to go outdoors and shut the chicken up and open the gates for OH to drive in from work ... then I get all the cooking and other smells as I walk in the door.Millymollymandy wrote:Don't know because you can't smell your own house can you? I think the three best house smells are fresh baked bread, sautéed garlic and wood/peat smoke.

Re: What does your home smell of?
I've spent a little time thinking hard about how to answer this cos different rooms have different smells here.
Lounge = damp dogs & stove ash (about to deploy incense stick & elbow grease!)
Kitchen = baking & washing up
Our bedroom = fresh laundry
Conservatory = freshly sawn wood (on of my favourite smells)
Daughter & her b/f's bedroom = hummm... let's just say I've opened the window even though its freezing!!!

Re: What does your home smell of?
Ours currently smells of dog (not a nasty smell, just a smell), tea tree and lavender (still treating OH's infected toe ) and damp laundry (washing now on airer)
When I cook tea (chicken breasts stuffed with soft cheese, garlic and herbs, wrapped in bacon) the smell of dog will turn into the smell of hungry dog...

Cat pee! It doesn't matter what we do, I have four cats who are getting on in years and even if we have a litter tray they insist on using the floor!

A mixture of home made tomato blognaise sauce and teenage girl (hair stuff and perfume) better than when it smelled of teenage boy! ( Son now grown up ish )

Re: What does your home smell of?
Woke up this morning and the whole house smells of fresh lemons
Unintentionally so I'm afraid and it means a lot of work for me today
My OH brought home a sample of culinary lemon oil and it has eaten through the plastic container it was in and has swamped my larder shelf with sticky lemony gunge. Of course the shelf is absolutely loaded with condiment bottles, spice jars, vinegar bottles etc. etc. each one that now has to be washed and will probably never really come clean.
Oh well, I was wondering what I was going to do today.

It does, and I think it will continue to for a long time.Annpan wrote:Cor, powerful stuff..... must smell gorgeous though
But if it does that to thick plastic in 2 days I'm not sure I want to eat it ... if she brings some more home.

Oaky woodsmoke, hyacinth flowers and damp dog! It smells better than it did first thing this morning though - dog had found some choice fox poo and rolled in it.
Since then, I've deployed a watering can full of soapy water and dog is now a bit more fragrant...

Re: What does your home smell of?
Our house usually smells of peat turfs... and Basset puppy.....
No matter how many times he's bathed, & has his ears cleaned, he always has this 'smell'.... the older Basset boy had his own smell as well, but after 7 years, I think we've gotten used to it!
Bassets also tend to have smelly feet.......
The worse smells are the fox-poo necks & backs tho....
And the little spaniel now he's old, does incredibly loud botty burps whenever he coughs.... like an old steptoe dog!
My home smells... like home!
