Things are getting a lot more ish
Hi All
My wife and I have been living in a van for the last 7 years 3 of those have been on a commercial camp site so we have not been able to pursue many of the ish ways discussed on this site, but that is about to change.
We had dinner at a friends house at the weekend and we were talking about our way of life and how we want to grow some veg etc but didn't have the room, plus our van needs a lot of work as it is looking a bit tatty and they made me a offer.
They live in a large farmhouse with loads of land and holiday cottages etc and last year they rented out the main house and lived for the summer in a log cabin they had built. The wife said she didn't want to go through that again and so the cabin has been left empty since the summer.
They have offered us the cabin, an allotment sized piece of garden for veg and a portion of their large polly tunnel for the same amount as we are paying on the campsite
The cabin has three rooms plus storage in the roof, running water (from a spring), shower and a flushing loo (no more emptying the portapoti) and I think I will be able to piggy back onto their wifi so we should have broadband.
They are also allowing us to have out van there so we can carry out repairs.
cool

I am really chuffed for you. It does restire your faith in humans and stop you being so cynical when you hear things like this.
I wish you all the luck in the world.

Absolutely fantastic! What lovely friends you have! How lovely that life has brought you such a happy and wonderful change!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Re: Things are getting a lot more ish
It is weird but I have been 100% happy living in the van for the last 7 years and so has Jules (I know this because we did think about moving into a flat a while ago but neither of us could face it).
Now, I come up with more reasons all the time why this move to the cabin is going to improve our life.
No more trudging across a muddy field in order to go to the loo of have a shower
No more emptying the portapotti
No more inbred red neck neighbour driving across our path in his stupid 4x4 and churning up the ground so it is like a WW1 battlefield.
We will have a separate bedroom so I can go to bed when I please or read or work and not be distracted by the TV
I can get up when I like or work through the night without disturbing Jules or the dogs
I can take a day off from the office and work from home or even get rid of the office altogether and work from home
We can invite people around for dinner (not very often as we don't like people that much but it will be nice to have the option at least)
We can grow some veg and have a compost heap and collect rain water and build a solar power system and solar water heating
It is going to be a nice change and I think we deserve it after living in a van for so long
Where do I sign
