Hello from London

Post: # 115548Post poppyfairy »

Hello
I am looking forward to hearing everyone's experience (especially urban dwellers) with trying to be a little more self sufficient.

We live in a rented house in suburban London and our landlord had a fit when we said we wanted to grow vegetables. I think they thought we were going to do the whole Good Life thing! So anyway we have had to compromise and grow what we want in pots. We used to have chickens when we rented in Australia but I am a little cautious about asking here. It was hard enough being allowed the cat and dog. When we win the lottery I am going to buy River Cottage off HSW and then all our problems will be over!

Hello and welcome!

Things have certainly changed in the rental market these days because I always rented in London and I always gardened and dug new flower beds and left many a scruffy unkempt garden looking in tip top condition (with a lot of plants that people had given me or I'd bought or grown from seed which I had to leave behind!) Sob.

The landlords were always really happy that I had made their gardens look beautiful, but it is in my nature so I couldn't not do it.

I did used to grow veg in pots only because of lack of space though.
