washing machine BBQ

no, seriously. it's takend the best part of today, we still gave no coals or grill for it but we are ALL proud.

I have no pics of me and my sister getting the drum out of the housing... but here I am trying to get the plastic stuff off the drum.





now, how do you suppose we get the concrete off without a good socket set and an engineer home (4 hours until James's return from work...)
I know! let's hit it with a spade!



nope. spade does NOT work. my wrists hurt.



finally, James returned homw with a decent socket set and some nice strong arms.

BBQ!!! now all we need are fire bricks to raise the coals a little, charcoal briquettes and a circular grill.



(I also ended up with a rather large glass bowl which will inevitably end up finding its way into the kitchen.)

These washing machine drums have loads of uses, here's one I used as a filter for my hydro turbine.

and here's one I used as a base for my mates hydro turbine



and the beauty of your new kitchen bowl is that it's heat resistant glass!

Hey - MrsFlibble - we did the washing machine BBQ thing too a couple of months ago.

Trouble is, when we took the concrete element down to the tip (we couldn't think of anything else to do with it) Jybson got it out the back of the car and promptly dropped it from waist height on to his left foot.

After a trip down to A&E to determine that there were no broken bones he ended up with his foot in the air for the best part of a week whilst the swelling went down.

He's okay now though!

Could you not use them in place of bricks for your BBQ? Or for building a herb bed?

fire bricks are different to nor mal bricks and to concrete in that heat makes them stronger, concrete will eventually crumble under heat. And they have plastic cast into them too. I can't build a herb bed in my garden as I'm renting and everything has to be removable. But thanks for the ideas.

the big one has been placed in front of the shed as a patch for the hole, and the two smaller ones have made a rather natty doorstop.

now to work on turning the body of the washer into a bench without the aid of an angle grinder...

This is easily my favourite topic on here, I almost want mine to go wrong so I can attack it with a spade. Do you have any more projects lined up?

yes I intend to make the body of the machine into a bench. l have a good idea for how to do it! I plan to make it usable as storage too.
other than that I am only planning fabric projects like sophie's winter coat!

update: still can't edit my post MMM, no idea why as I'm not techie enough.
I didn't turn the body into a bench, James wouldn't hear of it so it went to our local rag and bone man. I@m now wondering if he'll take my broken sewing machine... (the one a repaisr bloke said "chuck it in a skip there's nowt I can do with it)....?!

Do you have a local amenity centre?? Ours take sewing machines and send them to Africa or somewhere like that (I know all the details me) they mend them and use them!!
