UFO Reports

Post: # 102874Post MKG »

The UK UFO files have been released today, so this topic is bound to come up. Just thought I'd save someone the effort of opening it.

Well, I downloaded the lot - some document!!! - and flicked through it. You may not be surprised to hear that the MoD, although they can't confirm that little green men don't exist anywhere in the universe (on the grounds that Einstein said they might), say they're highly unlikely to be here.

One of the statistical results which caught my eye, though, is that (apart from London, where you'd expect it) the Southern Uplands and Central Lowlands of Scotland has a higher per capita fruitcake ratio than anywhere else in the UK (oh, and North Notts. has a zero count :cooldude: ).

Well, I could have told them that for nothing.

I presume that "fruitcake ratio" isn't the official designation?

MKG - you've obviously never been to Scotland... I once cycled along in the middle of the night through the Highlands, full moon shining, some weird bird calling over the loch, and me being followed by a bat overhead - ANYBODY would start believing in flying saucers!

But I HAVE been to Scotland - I lived in Glasgow for two years. (So I actually knew the fruitcake ratio before the MoD confirmed it)

Seriously, though, I still think that Glasgow is the best-kept secret in the world. I'd go back there tomorrow.

What about Area 51, MKG? Did you not see the alien body?

Yep. And I also saw the curly phone lead which wasn't in use in the US at the time. It WAS in use in the UK, which is where the autopsy film was made.

What about people who have been abducted by aliens for experiments?

Personally, I would have chosen better subjects. Alien experiments on people who can't spell cat are doomed to failure.

It is interesting because under investigation the signs indicate something may have occurred - lost time, body marks, memories of walking on space ships, talking with aliens, receiving warnings about the environment. No smoke without fire.

Oh, come on - you can't compare Glasgow with the Highlands!

Saw a UFO once with my Dad over a busy council estate in Norfolk. It was huge. And pink. Just sat there for a while then shot off into nowhere. I was only about 10 at the time so no chance of alchohol playing a part. Pukka!

I'm not sure what to make of flying saucers et al. I mean, I do believe that there is life on other planets, I'm just not sure that they visit us and stuff. In years gone by, people had similar abduction experiences, though instead of aliens they found themselves in Faeryland or other mythological places. Its only really the latter half (or so) of the last century that its become spaceships and extra-terrestrials (with the rise of the computer age and science fiction). I find it hard to believe that people hadn't considered life on other planets and space travel being a possibility in, say, medieval times, so why weren't they having alien abductions back then? Unless, of course, these aliens have only become technologically advanced enough to travel here at the exact same time that we started having sci-fi describing the same things.
I think it far more likely that the 'abductees' were either under some delusion, making it up, or were experiencing the same Faeryland stuff as our ancestors but filtering it through a modern, pop-culture influenced mindset.
Harm None!

thats a very valid point as some old folklore descriptions of fairies can actually be quite similar to alien descriptions too. (apparently the fairy stereotype of tiny flying winged creature is relatively recent)
