Breast feeding and arthritis

Post: # 102606Post MKG »

I am developing arthritis in my hands, effectively preventing me from playing my guitar. I read on the news that breast-feeding may prevent arthritis and, as I still have ambitions in the folk-rock world, I wondered if any of you ladies could help me out.

I'd be no good - Chris was fine 'til he met me and within 6 months he had Arthur!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

I was once diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (which turned out to just be hypomobility - the "official" name for generally dodgy joints), but I found out that taking cod liver oil supplements is supposed to help.

I'm doing that, and it does seem to help. It's only the more demanding "fingery"-type tasks which cause problems. But hey-ho - I was never much good on the guitar anyway - I'm thinking hurdy-gurdy is more in my comfort-zone now (but they cost a LOT of money).

Turmeric can help, too - just eat a lot of curries...

(Alternatively, you can get the stuff in tablet form.)

I'm a size 10, really; I wear a 20 for comfort. (Gina Yashere)

Many moons ago, I worked at the Early Music Shop where we sold Hurdy Gurdies, including kits. I know the instruments can be way over a grand but a simple 4 string would be a lot less, and a kit might be less still. That being said, I was looking at getting a harp for my son and the kit was dearer than a ready made harp was! So I may well be talking so much horse's elbows here :?

Stick to the breastfeeding. It's cheaper!

Know how you feel, but it's good excuse to get someone esle to do the fiddly bits, and as for the guitar bit, who the hell would pay good money to see a 75 year old rocker; so as long as you can put two fingers up
:thumbright: :thumbleft:
 Good luck

My little boy is a top professional breast feeder, I'm sure he'll give you some tips if you can find a suitable partner ;)

Just read that article and it´s the mums which get the benefit (if they BF more than 12 months) not the one breastfeeding......so bad luck MKG but hurrah for me
