Health & Beauty?

Post: # 122082Post StripyPixieSocks »

Having spent the last hour searching out recipes for home-made shampoo, soap on t'internet and what not I wondered if we could have a health and beauty section where we could share recipes and tips about natural toiletries and / or herbal remedies?

It's just there's no one place for that kind of thing except for the ones that are lumped in with brewing so you have to search through homebrew threads to find one about soap... not that there's anything wrong with that but not everyone has as much time as I do...

Pretty please :angel10:

I've tried aloe vera gel for shampoo. Didn't get thru my hair to my scalp very well.

Tried a base of organic, liquid castile soap mixed with all kinds of things, from vegetable glycerin to sweet almond oil. It was too drying.

Have heard that soapwort root is amazing, but smells bad. Haven't tried it yet.

Some use baking soda and water. I haven't thoroughly tested it yet.

I brush my teeth with baking soda. I was using it for deodorant, but have found it too irritating. It does neutralize smells. Am using aloe vera gel with a drop of organic lavendar oil in it, as a roll on. Works okay, but not as well as the baking soda. But, the aloe vera gel is healing the irritation on my skin from the baking soda.
