How do i refridgerate/freeze things on the cheap.

Okay bit of a long-shot this one but you guys normally come up with something i hadn't thought of more often than not. I'm looking to get a small freezer or fridge that i can just about travel with so quite portable.

You can get cheapie USB fridges but i don't think they work that great. So i am either up for advice on what spec cool box freeze box portable type plug in thing to get.

Or... is there anyway of freezing with liquid nitrogen or is that going to be dangerous... probably is isn't it...

(it's to keep my Swedish snus at a cool temperature)

Up to anything around the £400 mark. Probably because the cheaper ones seem to be Thermoelectric coolers... what is that? Will it cool to fridge/freezer levels.

We are looking to buy one which will actually act as a freezer for when we are away in our campervan as the freezer in the van is tiny.

We were shocked at how expensive they are

How cool is cool? Cool, cold or frozen? How much stuff needs keeping at that temperature? I have a small pouch thing that works by water evaporating to keep the contents cool. I use it to keep insulin cool while we're away camping. The idea can be scale up (as long as it's not to humid to stop the water evaporating easily).

Oh cool it's good you can keep your insulin cool - i've seen the insulin fridges... my Uncle has one as he's diabetic. Well, as cold as a fridge is best - or failing that anything colder. So cold is ok. Cool is probably not enough. Frozen isn't a neccessity.

Your typical thermoelectric cooler will struggle to actually cool anything - they're mostly only up to keeping things that are already cold, cold a bit longer. Woefully inefficient.

Can't say I've actually used them, but it's what I've heard... There may be some that do the job properly.

I do know that thermoelectric cooling is unavoidably inefficient though.

Can't help with freezing, but my fridge is a hole in the ground with a cool-box in it . . . Stone-age technology, mate (well, the hole, anyway . . . ). Keeps my milk good for 3 days when we get a warm bit of summer . . .
