I've posted this in another thread, but I think it bears repeating in this one! :cooldude:

-this is the wreckage left yesterday after a chimney mounted wind turbine caused the whole chimneystack to disintegrate, it shredded the roof, and trashed the owner's daughter's bedroom - luckily noone was hurt! :?
.....and I sincerely doubt his insurance will cough up!

Crikey that's some damage, but as you say no one was hurt! It's a bit of a mess isn't it?
If in doubt ~ use a hammer!

Yes, I agree - it's some damage.

In the light of B&Q/Windsave advertising & photos -what now, you earners from all this? Are you going to pay for the devastation caused, directly, from your misleading advice and advertising photographs?!

Personally, I got very fed up with spotty, only-just-pubescent-boys telling me (when they knew nothing about where we lived) that this was the answer to all our power prayers! It is not an accident that we have two major windfarms within 5 miles of our home. One of which we can see, if we choose to walk the dogs 300 yards from our own boundaries.

How can an acned youth in Guildford/Farnborough and surrounding areas of Surrey/Hants (where I lived for most of my 56 years of life and still have close family) tell me what I can expect, weather-wise, in the area I now live (east of Peterborough close to the Wash) Most of them started off their spiel without stopping to ask 'where are you from?'

The essence of this, of course, is that I still have and exhibit my southern accent - it fools these pimply boys time without number.

When the something hits the fan ... who will pay?!!!!

this is one of the aspects of roof-mounted turbines that has worried me ever since I first looked at them! Buildings are just too "brittle" to have the loads exerted on them that these turbines can produce! :?
As to who pays - I dread to think! - certainly, any insurance company will have get-out clauses that'll save them coughing up, and doubtless, if you read the small-print on the teapot manufacturer's sites, find that full liability is also denied............. :?
I find it horrifying that grants are still available for the damned things!
I should point out that the turbine that crashed was chimney mounted, which even few teapot manufacturers recommend - but the principle does apply to wall/gable mounting - it's only a matter of time before someone gets one land on them, probably with a chunk of gable wall attached! :?
I work with turbines, and have the greatest respect for them - even a tiny one can exert enormous forces - if it's properly mounted on a sound free-standing tower, it should be totally safe - we would NEVER building-mount one as we anticipate precisely the problems illustrated above! :dave:

We had a knock on the door tonight.

"Hi, I'm Martin"

I was confused by this.

"We live at the back of your house."

"Oh right. "

I clearly looked confused, because very slowly and slightly more loudly (in order to be clearer) he added

"Your tree is in my garden."

As I had gone to school in the dark and come back in the dark, we hadn't even noticed!

It's just the biggest limb of the nasty ol' lelandiiiiiiiiiiii (sp?) and is about 15ft I should think. I think the rest of the tree will be ok. Martin has even offered to help us move it and sort out the fence. He was slightly taken aback at my complete not noticing though.
