BBC 1970's Saxon? Documentary

Post: # 214473Post Thurston Garden »

Can anyone remember the name of the documentary that the BBC did in the 70's where people lived as Saxons?

Are you sure they lived as Saxons ?

I remember a documentary type program in the late 70's about a group of young people who lived for a time in an Iron Age village somewhere in the west country, is that what you're thinking of maybe.
If I remember rightly it was called "Living in the Past"

There was a recent remake, which was largely spoiled by one selfish couple whose only interest seemed to be stirring up dissent and unpleasantness, before buggering off early. Great pity.

I know a couple of historical re-enactors who were consultants on "Living in the Past" - they were largely ignored and reckoned that the resulting program was more-or-less nonsense. Authenticity was sacrificed to "good television".

Thats a shame gregorach, but then thats the nature of TV I guess. I missed the remake but it does sound like they went for that cancer of TV land and decided to add "jeapody". I'd really like to do something like this but take it back even further and recreate how cavemen lived, but I doubt it would ever get made and I guess if it did they would have to throw in a couple of celebs just to spice things up a bit.
