Wwoof-ish - Central(ish) Scotland

Post: # 184540Post Annpan »

I thought I might as well start a fresh post for this though I know I have brought it up before.

We could really use a few wwoofers during the spring and summer.

We would be looking for people to help us out with sowing and planting out seedlings and weeding in our Polytunnel and veg patch, perhaps helping with some fence erecting and to help build the new chicken run, some general maintenance and painting... and other tasks which will all crop up at the same time, just about when our building work is finishing.

In exchange we/I could offer some tips I have learned since running our mini holding, some experience and practice with tasks related to looking after a mini-holding.

Chances are we can offer our spare bedroom (which isn't yet built) or camping in the orchard and 3 homegrown/home-cooked meals a day.

We would ask you to help out on 4 out of 7 days, the other 3 days you do what you like.

We are a mile from a bus-stop to the local big town (Hamilton) and from there you can easily get to Glasgow. We are also really near a motorway, so if you want to bring a car it is even handier. The area has lots of foraging opportunities and some lovely walks and bike rides, wild life, etc. It is a proper rural village, with no shops or bus service, really quiet.

We would be looking for people for the first week in May, June and July

Anyone interested?

I wish I could Annpan but New Zealand is just a little too far away so instead I'll just be jealous of any who can.
Our remote ancestors said to their mother Earth, "We are yours."
Modern humanity has said to Nature, "You are mine."
The Green Man has returned as the living face of the whole earth so that through his mouth we may say to the universe, "We are one."

Hmmmm may well be interested Ann, will have a discussion with Hubby.
It will also depend on getting time off work and as i haven't started the job I'll be doing at that time yet it may be a month or so before I can be definite.

It weird I was just thinking last night that I need to get back to Scotland for a visit soon, its been about five years since I was in the homeland!

That's great Looby... thanks for considering it

a few things I should have mentioned

We are family friendly  We have a 3 year old.

and anyone who into woodwork or plumbing, etc, etc, would be great.

Also for anyone younger interested in doing it as mini-work experience I am happy to write references  (pretty standard with wwoofers I gather)

At the moment the only livestock we have is 5 chickens, but we would want to be creating areas for more livestock.

we might just be AnnPan, could you handle a 2 and 4 yo as well?

Not too hot on the plumbing and carpentry, but if you want anything fabricating (welding) or a car serviced / repaired then MrGT is your man!

Will have to do a bit of a wait and see. As I am off for an MRI on Monday to see if they want to scedule my heart surgery for this year  :pale: so we're waiting on that one really.

Will pm you if it looks like we can

Check out these too:

http://www.helpx.net/

We've had 2 young fellas here, one moved on theother still here.

They got their own rooms, shower, they got their own brekkie, but I cooked the evening meal. They haven't been to worried about set hours, in fact one we had to drag inside cos he wouldn't stop!! We've taken them out for a couple of days, fishing and kayaking at the beach!

They have done heaps! It's worked out really well!
The Mothers of teens now know why some animals eat their young!
