I was born in Ireland, but the family moved to Wales when I was very young. i then moved back to Ireland when I was 20. When I was in Wales everyone called me Paddy, and now that I am back in Ireland eveyone calls me Taffy. I am very proud to be both.
I go to Boston now and then, and practically everyone I meet has some Irish ancestory, and is not slow to tell me about it. It annoys some Irish that I know, but I think it is great that they are so proud of their heritage.
Are there any actual Scots, Irish or Welsh on this forum?

I'm Welsh born and bred.....but now live in Scotland.
My dad is English though, and his grandparents were Irish....my mum was born in England to Welsh parents, but her grandmother was Greek....so I don't know what I am, really. I feel Welsh, and that's what matters.
We've looked back as far as we can for both sides, and we do seem to be completely devoid of Scottish blood.
Both my sons are Scottish, when they are playing me up. When they are good boys, I remind them that is because they are half Welsh.

I took my dog to play frisbee. She was useless. I think I need a flatter dog.

Regarding property prices, it depends exactly where you look, I think. My husband was born in Maryport in Cumbria, and wanted to move back that way. We looked at property prices on one trip and found that they were as bad as in Luton, where we were then living. We assumed we could never afford to move to Cumbria.
On another trip, we were looking in an estate agent's window in a town 20 miles away (as you do!) and found prices were much lower. It seems that Maryport is/was a property Hotspot for some reason. We were able to move to Cumbria after all. Lower standard of living, if you base it on income etc, but much better quality of life all round.
Incidentally, I was born in Suffolk of Suffolk parents. I left home at 19 and moved to Luton, .
My husband was born in Maryport in Cumbria. His father was from Norfolk, his mother from Wolverhampton. (Her mother was French).
We met in Luton, married in Dunstable, and now live in West Cumbria.
We both got into genealogy, and traced our ancestors to the same tiny village in Norfolk...miniscule world isn't it!

We all have two gifts we should try to use as much as possible - imagination and humour.
Imagination compensates us for what we are not.
A sense of humour consoles us for what we are.
And wisdom tells us not to worry about it!

I was born in Ireland and lived there until I was eight. So I gues that makes me an "actual Irish", even though I have spend more than 3/4 of my life in Canada, with the occassional trip back "home".
