Children's feet!
Right, I need some advice from those of you with (young) kids.
Basically, it's my little brother's birthday next month, and the poor little thing's gonna have to do with home-made presents from me this year 'cos I am flat broke.
I'm going to make him some home-made socks (which he won't appreciate and will ruin) with some nice cotton yarn I got in a sale, and some flip flops* (he hates wearing shoes, but our garden is prickly, stings and is covered in cat's wee and dead mice) using the carrier-bag method I mentioned on a thread ages ago (which I have trial-ran, and looks to be brilliant!)
Buuut I have no idea how big to make them!
I've asked my mum several times, but being as she's responsible for a rather large brood, I've had no response, and time is running out!
So to the parents out there, roughly what size would you expect the feet of a (small) 10 year old to be? Just the shoe size is all I need, once I can figure out the length, I can figure out the rest pretty easily... and these things don't really require accuracy anyway. I know it's a long shot, but it's worth the try!
*flipflops = thongs, jandals, depending on where you're from

British big size 1.... perhaps... My LO isn't even 2 yet but I am trying to base my guesstimate on my nephews feet...

Wow, that was such a quick reply!
Thank you, I'll see what the consensus is if anyone else has a clue, but that sounds about right, maybe I'll drop by a shoe shop tomorrow too and have a butchers.

Just in case anyone else might find a shoe-chart useful (you never know...), I found a brilliant one here.

That's the problem, baldowrie, I don't live with him.
I'm sure 4-5 is not likely to be his size, since that's the size my feet are, and I'd be sharing shoes with him by now if that were the case. A size 1 seems a bit big, too.
Going to email my mum again!

Well apparently he's between a 2-3, but now I'm extra-confused.
See, I'm just not practical-minded enough to figure out whether she means the small size 3 (ie. 5"/12.7cm long feet) or a real size 3 (9"/22cm)... help!

Wow, I still think of his feet as tiny!
Thank you guys for being there to save me from my own lack of common sense
