i need to take some better photos, but i wanted to show this off as it's truely ish lol.
pattern: 25p from jumble
book on how to adjust patterns: 10p from charity shop (50 year old book lol)
fabric: funny story. my mum bought it in 1985 to make me and her matching xmas outfits. life got in the way and she never got aorund to it. she gave me the fabric, and asked if i'd make something form it. i was just waiting for the right pattern!!!

so, this shirt is essentially older than my best friend who is a mum of two lol.

it's a tunic pattern, but i had to adjust the length, sleeves, boobage area and shoulders to make it flatter me. i also added ties on the side seams so i could cinch in the waist.

That's a lovely tunic top! I've been trying to get the courage together to make something similar as I find little joy in shops (being similarly gifted in certain departments). How long did it take to sew together?

And also, that's a total win for the fabric too!

it took an hour to cut, another to baste, interface and press, two to sew (i kept making mistakes lol!) and another two to adjust which i did by hand instead of machine... had i adusted it properly from the outset it'd not have taken me so long lol!!

it also took an hour to hem, but that's because i prefer to hem by hand beacuse i am very good at blindstitch and i enjoy the look of handstitched hems more than machine sewn ones.

It looks lovely. I'mitching to make more clothes but always get hung up on what if it all goes wrong.... shoudl just get my finger out and try and aim toget such good results as you have.

Your creations are always lovely, and this is no exception - high on ish-ness too. I really like the shape at the back and the beautiful Christmassy colours. Come to think of it, I quite fancy a new top for Christmas too - I feel a rummage in the fabric stash coming on!!!

I LOVE the top Mrs F! So professional looking!

Cassiepod: if it goes awry, make something smaller ie blouse becomes vest top. If things go really badly, it's 'Fate's' way of telling you to take up patchwork! Seriously have a go, with something simple then progress. That way all your mistakes will be little ones; easy to put right & relitively cheap. If you don't try you'll never know just how good you can be! I look forward to seeing your pics on the board very soon.

yes, unless you have a dress form to try things on lol!

mking one of those is easy and cheap too. Doris, my dress form, was completed in an afternoon and is invaluable because she lets me see what will suit me, and allows me to tweak things using basic basting stitches before putting proper needle to fabric.

Gah! I just gave my dressform (named Matilda!) to my mum, it's about 3 or 4 sizes too small for me though!
I might just ask to borrow it back and tweak it a bit :iconbiggrin:
