Rain forest condoms - what really?

Yep I thought this story was a little odd too.

The Brazilian government has begun producing condoms using rubber from trees in the Amazon.

The health ministry says the move will help preserve the largest rainforest in the world.

It will also cut dependence on imported contraceptives, which are given away to fight Aids.

The Brazilian government has one of the biggest programmes in the world to distribute free condoms in the fight against the disease.

The new state-run factory is in the north-western state of Acre, and will initially produce 100 million condoms a year, which will be known by the name Natex.

my friend got confused last night, and was talking about durex gloves. (I bet she was suprised to find it only had the one finger to it, but at least there was space for her false nail!

)
I thinkshe meant latex.

3.33 people per family a husband a wife and 1.33 kids, one person working in family. 3.33 x 150 = 500.

Woah! That's 500 people, not 500 families.

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for this kind of thing and second Clara's booing and hissing. But I end up scratching my head over unclear reporting like this. If I was a cynical materialist, I might just shake my head and say "Yeah, there you go - they got their figures wrong again". But I'm not.

I bet they are thinking of the trickle down effect: several families that earn a living and spend money can provide an income for another family - that kind of thing. Although 500 still seems a bit high. And you don't really want a trickle down effect in this case...

Do you mean that sellotape went by the brand name of Durex in Australia, or............

Australians use sellotape round their dicks cos they're too tight arsed to buy condoms?
