1. fill with compost and start your peas or beans off, a biodegradable pot.
2. tape together and have toy binoculars

3. Make things Blue Peter style along with empty washing up liquid bottles etc.

4. Rip up roughly and add to compost bin.

5 Make 'snakes' out of them, use a long piece of string with a knot at the end, start with an eggcarton cup, thread on as many loo rolls as you like and stick another eggcarton cup on the other end. decorate and enjoy (works best with people under the age of 16 I would think)

I really did this once. It was sooooooo funny.


Cat didn't seem to mind and got rid of them pretty quickly so I don't think it was cruel.

Do u have to turn the bottom over to make a complete pot or does the compost stay in on its own? Thinking of using them to start off squashes.

Well I used to give them to the gerbil to shred - but I think I'll be saving the next 8 as I have two cats!!!!!

Scrunch up into a kind of rippled roll and place in an open fronted bird nest box to make a bug bivouac.

Make into Christmas crackers and shout BANG! when you pull them (as in The Good Life - I watched that episode last night and very good it was too)

Use them as cable tidies.

Take the excess length of cable, wrap/fold into reasonable loops, without crushing the wire, and slip the tube over them. At one end one has the appliance, the other end sits the plug. Great for computers.

Tidy out of site ... hey presto! No spaghetti!

Fill with dry pet food, fold over or screw up the ends, punch a few smallish-holes in the roll (about the size of the dry food biscuits), and leave with your housebound pet while you are away at work - hours of fun as they try to get out the food.

In answer to the compost question - you just pack the compost in nice and tightly before planting and then put them on a tray and the compost stays put nicely - it just all binds together. Be careful with your watering though as i over watered some of mine and they have gone all slimey and mouldy! On the whole they - brilliant!

I have loads of loo roll tubes and was going to start a new thread called "101 uses for a toilet roll tube", but when I searched for it first I found it already existed. So I hope you don't mind if I bump it to see if anyone has any new ideas. I'm particularly interested in crafty things to do with my 3 year old. She loves painting and 'gloopy gluing', but I have no imagination what-so-ever, so it makes coming up with new ideas quite difficult.
