101 things to do to help people less fortunate then ourselve

101 Uses For is popular and let's hope it stays that way. Our second book is presently called 101 tips for self sufficiency; we will certainly dip into this section for ideas. So post away and let's try and get at least one thread up to 101.

101 things to do to help people less fortunate then ourselve

Post: # 117142Post QuakerBear »

As stated, here's the list. I'm fed up of feeling impotent. I'm going to change the world starting now.

1. Sort out your old clothes and give to the Salvation Army.

2. Set up a standing order for £2 a month (more if you can) for a charity that appeals to you.

3. You're already using the internet so look up volunteering oportunities in your local area.

4. Email this list to someone and ask them to contribute a suggestion.

5. Tell someone what you're doing from the list, that way you have to do it.

6. Add a suggestion to this list.

7. If you're at work, put all your small change in the charity box.

8. Go for a walk/jog (I think I'm still in the walk category  ) to start getting fit for your up comming fun run.

9. Try and make your work switch to using Fair Trade drinks.

Right, that's one thing done. More latter. Apathy can go and perform an intimate act with a tree because I'm going to be really active from now.

10. Join a political party and start to change the system from within.

Oh my goodness. I just joined a political party! They're not perfect but I shall infiltrate them at a local level and turn them to my purpose.

Oh my goodness, what have I just done?

13. if you have plenty of veg when you harvest, find someone old or infirm in your area to donate to (i'm sure your local church will help) remember when we were kids the harvest festival, and what better than an organic gift.

17 Cick the button at the bottom of the page that leads to a site where the clicks mean donations to charity (Save rainforest land at the moment)
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

If you are able to, give a safe stable loving home to a rescued animal or if you cant have a pet of your own make a regular donation to an animal shelter.

19 choose your charites, and give to them regularly (as in number 2) rather just anyone who asks - I have 4 favs - one local, one overseas, one environmental and one medical care

20 consider sponsoring a child. I could not have any more kids, after my son, so sponsored a child in Egypt - she is grown up now.

21 helping is not all about money, I make a point of chatting to some of the 'inmates' at my grans old peoples home.. they still have their marbles and no visitors and really seem to welcome a chat

22 keep an eye out for that elderly neighbour, or adult with learning difficulties, or frail person you know.

I like like minded people... a bit like minded anyway.. well people with bits of their minds that are like the bits of my mind that I like...

I don't do that anymore - they wanted my name and address as well as the tick (I suppose so they can check whether you really are in work). Result? I kept getting begging letters from them - all those letters must have cost them more than I donated! So it's really better for THEM (as well as my nerves) not to "tick the box".... Sorry, but as long as charities insist on annoying the hell out of me, I won't help them to get even more.

27. Help local people in need: keep an eye out for disasters like house fires/floods/accidents etc and ask what you can do to help.
