Plums!

Sigh... so many of my plums have the plum moth caterpillars in them. I've read that, when fully fed, they emerge and overwinter inside silk cocoons spun under loose bark or other concealed places. Is there a way to destroy them at that stage so that they don't cause problems next year?

hang fat balls in your fruit trees over winter to encourage tits to pick off any pests.

...and remove their habitat so they've nowhere to hide. I don't know how far they travel but keeping the area under the tree clear should help.

I don't mind the sawfly so much, I can cut of the affected bit and the rest of the plum is perfectly good - and delicious. But this moth plum maggot makes a mess of the whole fruit. It's the first time my tree has been affected with it.
