Oregon grape

I recently asked to identify what turned out to be a japanese quince . They were in a couple of gardens i work in . Also in a number of gardens i visit is another plant although this one i know , it's an Oregon grape. Spikey things they are when you have to remove them . They do of course have grape like berries , small dark blueish things. Googling about it mention is made of their use in wine making. So simple question , has anyone tried making it and how many would i need , i assume around 3lbs which would probably mean picking from several gardens .

I had a quick scout around and saw a recipe (which they said was delicious) which used 2kg. That must have been from a hedge rather than one bush.

Yes i think i'd struggle to get a couple of kilos . There are several of these plants in places i visit but the grapes are hardly huge. I may have to pick what i can and drop them in the freezer until i get enough.

Maybe you could mix them with another fruit - apples or plums?

Funnily enough i did that with my own "proper" grapes. We put them through the liquidiser and didn't quite have enough to fill the demijohn so we topped it up with apple juice. I'd like to try just with the oregon grapes but i'll have to seehow i go.
