Hi from Speyside
Hi all
Just joined and thought I'd make myself known. Can't believe it's taken me so long to find this forum as I've been into this stuff for years!
I live in rural Speyside in the North East of Scotland with my partner and our two kids one of whom is disabled. We home-ed the kids and combine that with running our business which is breeding alpacas. In my spare time I love to make stuff - ranging from guitars/ukes to woodcarving and leatherwork. My other thing is beekeeping and I'm pretty knowledgeable about that (I like to think) although the bees sometimes make it known that I'm still a beginner albeit one with 10 years experience. Love foraging and my latest was a fresh roadkill roe deer which I butchered and skinned (skin is going to be braintanned at some point soon). Although I live on the banks of the Spey the siuation in this area is that I can't fish on it as it's very much the preserve of the rich - but never mind.
Hoping to learn plenty on the forum and hoping where I have a little knowledge I can share it.
Cheers
Gerry

Hi there and welcome
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Oops we are close kin. I too have family in Granton and my sisters daughter is married to a local Gilly. I have met him he is one ace bloke. We must respect each others family.
For my part if he could help you I am sure he would. but if you threaten his family and livelihood ,,,

Hello, I am pretty new here. I have two alpacas, just my pets really. Can I ask, what do you do with the fibre from yours, do you process it yourselfs or send it to the alpaca fibre processors, didn't know fibre from two would cause me so much angst
best wishes Lyn

Hi Lyn
We have a fair backlog as well! But we're gradually working our way through it. We've been sending it to this place
http://www.thebordermill.co.uk/
They do a great job of turning fleece into whatever kind of yarn you want. Is there an equivalent (a mini-mill) in Ireland? Or I guess you could always post your fleece to a mini-mill in the UK.
Good luck whatever you do.

Re: Hi from Speyside
Thanks for the link Gerry, had never seen this one before. There are no mini mills in Ireland, the fella we got ours from has 100 and has a lot of fibre he has to send to the uk, I may send him this info as well, I am interested in making rugs and they do stuff for rugs, thanks again, good luck yerself
