Sweet potato propagation

Post: # 283221Post diggernotdreamer »

I grew some sweet potatoes this year, with varying results, but I think I could do better if I had the plants sooner. Having splashed out 24 quid on a selection of 3 sorts, I don't want to buy any more slips. I have a selection of very small tubers which I have potted up and will try and raise as house plants. I also took some cuttings of the vines of the one that did best (Carolina Ruby) and they have been in water for a few weeks now and have started to root and leaf up. I will grow these on as houseplants as well, I am hoping that if they do well, I will have a source of material that I can make more slips from. I have never had a lot of luck trying to get sweet potato tubers to sprout, they usually end up in a pile of gloop. All I need now is another water tank............... and a small aubergine
