Thanks to everyone who's had a look at these, particularly MKG for putting my mind (slightly) at rest that I'm not going to get over-run by a few million slugs or snails!

I've been looking into slime moulds and jelly fungi a bit more deeply. It may be that the identification of your mystery "stuff" is because surprisingly little is known about the immature stages of those things. Save those photos - you may be onto a scientific breakthrough!

It was like a tiled pink pattern as the background, and the posts were coming in striped - alternately green and pink. Not the most beautiful sight. Must have been a glitch on my browser.
Anyway, the 'eggs' still look exactly the same, which makes me think even more that they can't be insect eggs - correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm assuming insect eggs would tend to have a fairly short gestation period?
