Yep - I had that feeling for quite a while too. But they transplant very easily at a MUCH earlier stage than you'd think feasible. I transplanted a dozen or so into their own tiny pots, and they're now four times the size of the others (apart from those "accidentals", which are the biggest of the lot). I think that might be an "in the know" moment. But yes, apparently they don't zoom into growth - but they make up for it later, as they can be 6 or 7 feet tall.

EDIT: Nearly forgot, MMM. If they're up, get them out of the propagator - they're extremely prone to damping off.

OK thanks Mike - I did think I'd better get them out of propagator but they are just so teeny! Will do.

the info sheet that came with mine said 12 days germination MMM, and MKG - no i didn't use a propagator, will try that with me second batch! :D

Info sheet I'd forgotten about that - just dug it out and read it! I didn't put any ash over the top, just sowed in a seed tray and covered with a bit of sieved compost - germinated in 2 days in the propagator!

Actually they are growing so will give them a few more days then attempt to prick a handful out.

Mine has decided to spurt in the last week or so - they're all now of a size to plant out. Apart from one which a snail took a liking to. I can't find the snail - it's no doubt tucked away in a cosy corner, stoned out of its mind.

Now comes the difficult bit - I can plant in the reserved bed easily (OH knows about that). But how do I hide another couple of dozen plants, which may grow to six feet, without her knowing? I could say they're sunflowers, I suppose - but she'll twig that when one of them comes into flower. I've got my eye on a few large pots which appear to be unwanted for this season. They could go behind the greenhouse. Do you think she might notice?

Mine are still about the same size as they were when they germinated.

my first lot did not do alot, stopped growing. my second attempt have gone mad and are about 5" tall with big broad leaves.
no pictures, camera broken

MIne are going out to play today, I pricked some out at the weekend, and they appear very attractive to slugs and snails, so must keep an eye on that. I have just left them in the seed tray I sowed them in, and after I think about 6 weeks they look big enough to sow straight outside, we will see.

My biggest one has two leaves that are about 1cm diameter and that's much bigger than the rest of them! They are too small to put out yet so are on a sunny windowsill indoors.

Although they raced to that point when I put them out and now seem to have gone into hibernation again.

I've read that they don't like too rich an environment - or rather, they do, but they'll just sit there not doing much??? Any comments, Demi?

I might bung a few in the cold frame but I'm worried they will frazzle or dry out too quickly as they are in tiny pots.
