Golden Virginia seeds.

Post: # 210931Post prison break fan »

This year I grew tobacco on my allotment. Probably beginners luck, but it did really well. I don't smoke, but have friends who do, and from eight plants have enough to keep them supplied. I have masses of seeds, so if anyone would like some, please get in touch. pbf.

Goodies arrived this morning. Big thank you :salute: :salute: :salute:

I've been amusing myself by touring the "Grow Your Own Snout" sites. I never realised how easy (virtually impossible) tobacco was to grow. Nor how simple (full-time job) to keep all the pests and diseases away. Curing the leaf is, of course, child's play (tons of specialist equipment needed) but isn't necessary (OMG the world will end if you don't do it).

Reminds me a lot of touring the homebrew sites

Thanks again ... Mike

Must have a google myself, the only thing I know about tobacco is what it looks like as I saw it once in a Dutch garden so I know it takes up space!! How to turn it into a cigarette I have no idea. Well I guess I need a packet of rizlas as a start.

Or am I supposed to just roll up the leaf and pretend I'm smoking a Cuban cigar?

MIne too, thank you very very much.
As Mike says, there does seem to be allot to it.
Would be nice to keep this thread going to plot our progress.

The one thing, it says dry it, then wait a year or better two, then make maleable again with sugar and water....... I really won't be smoking in two years time..... will I??????

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

All depends if you're smoking now

But seriously, I think it looks like one of those fairy story things. PBFs already said that it ain't difficult to grow. Now all we have to do is discover how much of the "must cure" / "doesn't matter" argument has to be taken seriously. I have a not too realistic image of Plains Indians discussing whether it's the right time or not to have a go at Custer because the tobacco harvest is only just in the curing chamber. Hmmmm. There appears to be two camps - the curers and the driers. Only time will tell.

Mike

@ MMM - I didn't realise you were a nicotine-head!!!

Fraid so Mike, haven't you read the Stop Smoking thread - all 9 pages or so of it? In it I give my thoughts on the Alan Carr book. :banghead:   (yeah shouldn't laugh but otherwise I'd cry!). But anyway I'm going to try growing the tobacco for fun as much as anything else.

Just had a quick google - seems I need to do the sun curing bit (from Wiki) "Sun-cured tobacco is low in sugar and nicotine and is used in cigarettes."

Oh so just another thing for my sunny windowsills in the living room along with growing basil, drying walnuts and ripening green tomatoes then.

Glad everyone got their seeds okay, MMM yours went in the post today. My daughter is smoking stuff we grew this year, just dried in the conservatory and crumbled with her regular tobacco. I think you can disregard all the instructions! That is my usual method! Will be interested to hear how everyone gets on. pbf.
