So true about the micro climate - one house near us has a great garden just faces the right way and is sheltered.

I love my coffee so have saved all the jars to use as plant pots just the right size for a lettuce or herbs and the glass really helps hold in the heat.

I once saw a type of wrench device - a plastic strap or maybe fabric that you tightened to grip the lid then used the lever to apply force.

Hi all I joined in 2010 but didn't post all that much as I was quite busy and didn't have my own garden, only windowsills and what I could gather wild. I got a bit depressed with how little I could grow. I now have an allotment and am feeling a little more like life is moving in the right direction...
