All the tops have died off but i noticed the other day that there are new shoots starting to grow from this years crop.
anybody got any ideas why and should i havest now before the skins have set.

jarred my quince jam by 5.30 on sunday and helen said that would be nice with some fresh baked bread, so bread was ready by 9.0pm,

took my tribe chesnuting today and got quite alot of them, so decided to freeze some.
found recipe on web which said roast them first and will store for months.

I grew 15 gherkin plants which i planted down the allotment, when the gherkins started to come i picked when they were about 2-4" long which half filled a large jar (picked egg jar) and covered with vinegar. After a few weeks they went pale in colour but tasted ok. Then a few more weeks a green...

I always have a glut of chillies, so I pickle in vinegar, preserve in olive oil, string them up to dry and freeze.

In reply to Lee the Pea, the marrow rum does not get sieved through the tights, the tights are there to hold the marrow upright so that you can add the sugar at the top and make a hole in the bottom for the rum to drip out.

add some yeast, it will then ferment.
i have made marrow rum many times and have aways added yeast, but some of my friends have done it without and had the same result as you.

I usually give my pickles for xmas, so have been growing shallots, red cabbage, beetroot and this year i'm trying gherkins as well.
I am now picking gherkins every other day and trying to perfect the pickling process, having got several recipes from the web.
